In stealing the household gods Rachel demonstrates a rather unsavoury aspect of her character. We tend to think of Rachel, maybe because she was Jacob's favourite wife, as the more spiritual. However look for aspects of Leah's behaviour in the next few days which show her spirituality.

v49.The name Mizpah provides us with a lovely blessing for each other
v51,52. It is possible that the images were title deeds to property. Therefore Jacob is swearing that he will not claim Laban’s land

THE FEAR OF ISAAC (v.42)
This is a strange but remarkable phrase, denoting the personal God who was the object of Isaac’s worship. The word for "fear" (pachad) suggests reverential awe, a fear of offending. That was the attitude of Isaac towards God. He is the God whom Isaac feared and revered at the same time. Note that he calls him not Isaac’s God, but "his fear", because Isaac was yet alive, and in the state of probation, he served God with fear and trembling.(see -Gen 27:33 )
Let this be the driving force each and every day, that with reverential fear, we may see ourselves as living in the sight of God.

31:22 It is all too easy to make hasty judgments or draw hasty conclusions. When we feel things are not going as we would like in our lives we might be tempted to feel that God has forsaken us. This is the sort of thing that David is saying.

Gen 31:17-21 We see the hand of God preserving Jacob and his ten sons (see posting 17thJan.2019). God told Jacob to depart from Haran (Gen 31:13,17-18). Like his grandfather Abraham, Jacob and his sons “crossed over the river”, i.e. River Euphrates (Gen.31:21). So Jacob and his family followed the Divinely established principle to mark a new beginning by passing through water before entering the promised land, (Josh 24:3).
“I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood and led him…”to enter the land of Canaan, (Gen 12:4-5).
“I brought your fathers out of Egypt and ye came to the sea…”(Josh 24:6-7)
“The priests that bare the ark of the covenant stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan and all the Israelites passed over…”(Josh 3:17).
“…once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.”(1Pet 3:20)
These and many other examples lead us to the invitation offered by Jesus for us to pass through the waters of baptism. “He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” (Mark 16:16).

The 2 blind men of Matt 20:31 cry out the more when people tell them to keep quiet....this illusrates their desperatness to be healed, and the sensitivity of The Lord to "stand still" and hear them amoungst the business of the clamour for his attention....How much do we want to be cured from the infliction of this sinfull nature and to be delivered into the Glorious liberty of the children of God Luke 20:36 .....Our Lord warned us of our generation in regard to persistance in prayer of those who "cry day and night unto him",and adds, shall i find this sort of faith on the earth when i come?Luke 18:7-8.Showing how difficult this is to maintain in our times,"when the son of man cometh"

1. And he heard <8085>(8799) the words <1697> of Laban's <3837> sons <1121>, saying <559>(8800), Jacob <3290> hath taken away <3947>(8804) all that was our father's <1>; and of that which was our father's <1> hath he gotten <6213>(8804) all this glory <3519>.
2. And Jacob <3290> beheld <7200>(8799) the countenance <6440> of Laban <3837>, and, behold, it was not toward him as <8543> before <8032>.
3. And the LORD <3068> said <559>(8799) unto Jacob <3290>, Return <7725>(8798) unto the land <776> of thy fathers <1>, and to thy kindred <4138>; and I will be with thee.
4. And Jacob <3290> sent <7971>(8799) and called <7121>(8799) Rachel <7354> and Leah <3812> to the field <7704> unto his flock <6629>,
5. And said <559>(8799) unto them, I see <7200>(8802) your father's <1> countenance <6440>, that it is not toward me as <8543> before <8032>; but the God <430> of my father <1> hath been <1961>(8804) with me.
6. And ye <859> know <3045>(8804) that with all my power <3581> I have served <5647>(8804) your father <1>.
7. And your father <1> hath deceived <2048>(8765) me, and changed <2498>(8689) my wages <4909> ten <6235> times <4489>; but God <430> suffered him <5414>(8804) not to hurt <7489>(8687) me <5978>.
8. If he said <559>(8799) thus, The speckled <5348> shall be thy wages <7939>; then all the cattle <6629> bare <3205>(8804) speckled <5348>: and if he said <559>(8799) thus, The ringstraked <6124> shall be thy hire <7939>; then bare <3205>(8804) all the cattle <6629> ringstraked <6124>.
9. Thus God <430> hath taken away <5337>(8686) the cattle <4735> of your father <1>, and given <5414>(8799) them to me.
10. And it came to pass at the time <6256> that the cattle <6629> conceived <3179>(8763), that I lifted up <5375>(8799) mine eyes <5869>, and saw <7200>(8799) in a dream <2472>, and, behold, the rams <6260> which leaped <5927>(8802) upon the cattle <6629> were ringstraked <6124>, speckled <5348>, and grisled <1261>.
11. And the angel <4397> of God <430> spake <559>(8799) unto me in a dream <2472>, saying, Jacob <3290>: And I said <559>(8799), Here am I.
12. And he said <559>(8799), Lift up <5375>(8798) now thine eyes <5869>, and see <7200>(8798), all the rams <6260> which leap <5927>(8802) upon the cattle <6629> are ringstraked <6124>, speckled <5348>, and grisled <1261>: for I have seen <7200>(8804) all that Laban <3837> doeth <6213>(8802) unto thee.
13. I am the God <410> of Bethel <1008>, where thou anointedst <4886>(8804) the pillar <4676>, and where thou vowedst <5087>(8804) a vow <5088> unto me: now arise <6965>(8798), get thee out <3318>(8798) from this land <776>, and return <7725>(8798) unto the land <776> of thy kindred <4138>.
14. And Rachel <7354> and Leah <3812> answered <6030>(8799) and said <559>(8799) unto him, Is there yet any portion <2506> or inheritance <5159> for us in our father's <1> house <1004>?
15. Are we not counted <2803>(8738) of him strangers <5237>? for he hath sold <4376>(8804) us, and hath quite <398>(8800) devoured <398>(8799) also our money <3701>.
16. For all the riches <6239> which God <430> hath taken <5337>(8689) from our father <1>, that is ours, and our children's <1121>: now then, whatsoever God <430> hath said <559>(8804) unto thee, do <6213>(8798).
17. Then Jacob <3290> rose up <6965>(8799), and set <5375>(8799) his sons <1121> and his wives <802> upon camels <1581>;
18. And he carried away <5090>(8799) all his cattle <4735>, and all his goods <7399> which he had gotten <7408>(8804), the cattle <4735> of his getting <7075>, which he had gotten <7408>(8804) in Padanaram <6307>, for to go <935>(8800) to Isaac <3327> his father <1> in the land <776> of Canaan <3667>.
19. And Laban <3837> went <1980>(8804) to shear <1494>(8800) his sheep <6629>: and Rachel <7354> had stolen <1589>(8799) the images <8655> that were her father's <1>.
20. And Jacob <3290> stole away <1589>(8799) unawares <3820> to Laban <3837> the Syrian <761>, in that <5921> he told <5046>(8689) him not <1097> that he fled <1272>(8802).
21. So he fled <1272>(8799) with all that he had; and he rose up <6965>(8799), and passed over <5674>(8799) the river <5104>, and set <7760>(8799) his face <6440> toward the mount <2022> Gilead <1568>.
22. And it was told <5046>(8714) Laban <3837> on the third <7992> day <3117> that Jacob <3290> was fled <1272>(8804).
23. And he took <3947>(8799) his brethren <251> with him, and pursued <7291>(8799) after him <310> seven <7651> days <3117>' journey <1870>; and they overtook <1692>(8686) him in the mount <2022> Gilead <1568>.
24. And God <430> came <935>(8799) to Laban <3837> the Syrian <761> in a dream <2472> by night <3915>, and said <559>(8799) unto him, Take heed <8104>(8734) that thou speak <1696>(8762) not to <5973> Jacob <3290> either good <2896> or <5704> bad <7451>.
25. Then Laban <3837> overtook <5381>(8686) Jacob <3290>. Now Jacob <3290> had pitched <8628>(8804) his tent <168> in the mount <2022>: and Laban <3837> with his brethren <251> pitched <8628>(8804) in the mount <2022> of Gilead <1568>.
26. And Laban <3837> said <559>(8799) to Jacob <3290>, What hast thou done <6213>(8804), that thou hast stolen away <1589>(8799) unawares <3824> to me, and carried away <5090>(8762) my daughters <1323>, as captives <7617>(8803) taken with the sword <2719>?
27. Wherefore didst thou flee away <1272>(8800) secretly <2244>(8738), and steal away <1589>(8799) from me; and didst not tell <5046>(8689) me, that I might have sent thee away <7971>(8762) with mirth <8057>, and with songs <7892>, with tabret <8596>, and with harp <3658>?
28. And hast not suffered <5203>(8804) me to kiss <5401>(8763) my sons <1121> and my daughters <1323>? thou hast now done foolishly <5528>(8689) in so doing <6213>(8800).
29. It is <3426> in the power <410> of my hand <3027> to do <6213>(8800) you hurt <7451>: but the God <430> of your father <1> spake <559>(8804) unto me yesternight <570>, saying <559>(8800), Take thou heed <8104>(8734) that thou speak not <1696>(8763) to Jacob <3290> either good <2896> or bad <7451>.
30. And now, though thou wouldest needs <1980>(8800) be gone <1980>(8804), because thou sore <3700>(8736) longedst <3700>(8738) after thy father's <1> house <1004>, yet wherefore hast thou stolen <1589>(8804) my gods <430>?
31. And Jacob <3290> answered <6030>(8799) and said <559>(8799) to Laban <3837>, Because I was afraid <3372>(8804): for I said <559>(8804), Peradventure <6435> thou wouldest take by force <1497>(8799) thy daughters <1323> from me.
32. With whomsoever <834> thou findest <4672>(8799) thy gods <430>, let him not live <2421>(8799): before <5048> our brethren <251> discern <5234>(8685) thou what is thine with me, and take <3947>(8798) it to thee. For Jacob <3290> knew <3045>(8804) not that Rachel <7354> had stolen <1589>(8804) them.
33. And Laban <3837> went <935>(8799) into Jacob's <3290> tent <168>, and into Leah's <3812> tent <168>, and into the two <8147> maidservants <519>' tents <168>; but he found <4672>(8804) them not. Then went he out <3318>(8799) of Leah's <3812> tent <168>, and entered <935>(8799) into Rachel's <7354> tent <168>.
34. Now Rachel <7354> had taken <3947>(8804) the images <8655>, and put <7760>(8799) them in the camel's <1581> furniture <3733>, and sat <3427>(8799) upon them. And Laban <3837> searched <4959>(8762) all the tent <168>, but found <4672>(8804) them not.
35. And she said <559>(8799) to her father <1>, Let it not displease <2734>(8799) <5869> my lord <113> that I cannot <3201>(8799) rise up <6965>(8800) before thee <6440>; for the custom <1870> of women <802> is upon me. And he searched <2664>(8762), but found <4672>(8804) not the images <8655>.
36. And Jacob <3290> was wroth <2734>(8799), and chode <7378>(8799) with Laban <3837>: and Jacob <3290> answered <6030>(8799) and said <559>(8799) to Laban <3837>, What is my trespass <6588>? what is my sin <2403>, that thou hast so hotly pursued <1814>(8804) after me <310>?
37. Whereas <3588> thou hast searched <4959>(8765) all my stuff <3627>, what hast thou found <4672>(8804) of all thy household <1004> stuff <3627>? set <7760>(8798) it here <3541> before my brethren <251> and thy brethren <251>, that they may judge <3198>(8686) betwixt <996> us both <8147>.
38. This twenty <6242> years <8141> have I been with thee; thy ewes <7353> and thy she goats <5795> have not cast their young <7921>(8765), and the rams <352> of thy flock <6629> have I not eaten <398>(8804).
39. That which was torn <2966> of beasts I brought <935>(8689) not unto thee; I bare the loss <2398>(8762) of it; of my hand <3027> didst thou require <1245>(8762) it, whether stolen <1589>(8803) by day <3117>, or stolen <1589>(8803) by night <3915>.
40. Thus I was; in the day <3117> the drought <2721> consumed <398>(8804) me, and the frost <7140> by night <3915>; and my sleep <8142> departed <5074>(8799) from mine eyes <5869>.
41. Thus have I been twenty <6242> years <8141> in thy house <1004>; I served thee <5647>(8804) fourteen <702> <6240> years <8141> for thy two <8147> daughters <1323>, and six <8337> years <8141> for thy cattle <6629>: and thou hast changed <2498>(8686) my wages <4909> ten <6235> times <4489>.
42. Except <3884> the God <430> of my father <1>, the God <430> of Abraham <85>, and the fear <6343> of Isaac <3327>, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away <7971>(8765) now empty <7387>. God <430> hath seen <7200>(8804) mine affliction <6040> and the labour <3018> of my hands <3709>, and rebuked <3198>(8686) thee yesternight <570>.
43. And Laban <3837> answered <6030>(8799) and said <559>(8799) unto Jacob <3290>, These daughters <1323> are my daughters <1323>, and these children <1121> are my children <1121>, and these cattle <6629> are my cattle <6629>, and all that thou seest <7200>(8802) is mine: and what can I do <6213>(8799) this day <3117> unto these my daughters <1323>, or <176> unto their children <1121> which they have born <3205>(8804)?
44. Now therefore come thou <3212>(8798), let us make <3772>(8799) a covenant <1285>, I and thou; and let it be for a witness <5707> between me and thee.
45. And Jacob <3290> took <3947>(8799) a stone <68>, and set it up <7311>(8686) for a pillar <4676>.
46. And Jacob <3290> said <559>(8799) unto his brethren <251>, Gather <3950>(8798) stones <68>; and they took <3947>(8799) stones <68>, and made <6213>(8799) an heap <1530>: and they did eat <398>(8799) there upon the heap <1530>.
47. And Laban <3837> called <7121>(8799) it Jegarsahadutha <3026>: but Jacob <3290> called <7121>(8804) it Galeed <1567>.
48. And Laban <3837> said <559>(8799), This heap <1530> is a witness <5707> between me and thee this day <3117>. Therefore was the name <8034> of it called <7121>(8804) Galeed <1567>;
49. And Mizpah <4709>; for <834> he said <559>(8804), The LORD <3068> watch <6822>(8799) between me and thee, when we are absent <5641>(8735) one <376> from another <7453>.
50. If thou shalt afflict <6031>(8762) my daughters <1323>, or if thou shalt take <3947>(8799) other wives <802> beside <5921> my daughters <1323>, no man <376> is with us; see <7200>(8798), God <430> is witness <5707> betwixt me and thee.
51. And Laban <3837> said <559>(8799) to Jacob <3290>, Behold this heap <1530>, and behold this pillar <4676>, which I have cast <3384>(8804) betwixt me and thee;
52. This heap <1530> be witness <5707>, and this pillar <4676> be witness <5713>, that I will not pass over <5674>(8799) this heap <1530> to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over <5674>(8799) this heap <1530> and this pillar <4676> unto me, for harm <7451>.
53. The God <430> of Abraham <85>, and the God <430> of Nahor <5152>, the God <430> of their father <1>, judge <8199>(8799) betwixt us. And Jacob <3290> sware <7650>(8735) by the fear <6343> of his father <1> Isaac <3327>.
54. Then Jacob <3290> offered <2076>(8799) sacrifice <2077> upon the mount <2022>, and called <7121>(8799) his brethren <251> to eat <398>(8800) bread <3899>: and they did eat <398>(8799) bread <3899>, and tarried all night <3885>(8799) in the mount <2022>.
55. And early <7925> <0> in the morning <1242> Laban <3837> rose up <7925>(8686), and kissed <5401>(8762) his sons <1121> and his daughters <1323>, and blessed <1288>(8762) them: and Laban <3837> departed <3212>(8799), and returned <7725>(8799) unto his place <4725>.
Notes that are not verse specific
Psalm 35 This Psalm probably refers to David's plea for God's help against Saul and his associates
John Wilson [Toronto West (Can)] Comment added in 2004 Reply to John
This Psalm, like so many, is about David, but also about Christ. The Lord's suffering was just as real as was David's, but worse. Jesus Christ did nothing wrong. He never killed a man, or fought in battle. He had no riches to provoke men's jealousy. He was altogether lovely. Yet they hated Him, and plotted His death.
David Simpson [Worcester (UK)] Comment added in 2005 Reply to David
In this prophetic psalm of David, we get a glimpse into the intensity the prayers of Jesus during the long nights spent talking to his Father. He put all his trust in God to look after him, despite what he was going through.

1. A Psalm of David <1732>. Plead <7378>(8798) my cause, O LORD <3068>, with them that strive <3401> with me: fight <3898>(8798) against them that fight <3898>(8802) against me.
2. Take hold <2388>(8685) of shield <4043> and buckler <6793>, and stand up <6965>(8798) for mine help <5833>.
3. Draw out <7324>(8685) also the spear <2595>, and stop <5462>(8798) the way against <7125>(8800) them that persecute <7291>(8802) me: say <559>(8798) unto my soul <5315>, I am thy salvation <3444>.
4. Let them be confounded <954>(8799) and put to shame <3637>(8735) that seek <1245>(8764) after my soul <5315>: let them be turned <5472>(8735) back <268> and brought to confusion <2659>(8799) that devise <2803>(8802) my hurt <7451>.
5. Let them be as chaff <4671> before <6440> the wind <7307>: and let the angel <4397> of the LORD <3068> chase <1760>(8802) them.
6. Let their way <1870> be dark <2822> and slippery <2519>: and let the angel <4397> of the LORD <3068> persecute <7291>(8802) them.
7. For without cause <2600> have they hid <2934>(8804) for me their net <7568> in a pit <7845>, which without cause <2600> they have digged <2658>(8804) for my soul <5315>.
8. Let destruction <7722> come <935>(8799) upon him at unawares <3045>(8799) <3808>; and let his net <7568> that he hath hid <2934>(8804) catch <3920>(8799) himself: into that very destruction <7722> let him fall <5307>(8799).
9. And my soul <5315> shall be joyful <1523>(8799) in the LORD <3068>: it shall rejoice <7797>(8799) in his salvation <3444>.
10. All my bones <6106> shall say <559>(8799), LORD <3068>, who is like unto thee, which deliverest <5337>(8688) the poor <6041> from him that is too strong <2389> for him, yea, the poor <6041> and the needy <34> from him that spoileth <1497>(8802) him?
11. False <2555> witnesses <5707> did rise up <6965>(8799); they laid to my charge <7592>(8799) things that I knew <3045>(8804) not.
12. They rewarded <7999>(8762) me evil <7451> for good <2896> to the spoiling <7908> of my soul <5315>.
13. But as for me, when they were sick <2470>(8800), my clothing <3830> was sackcloth <8242>: I humbled <6031>(8765) my soul <5315> with fasting <6685>; and my prayer <8605> returned <7725>(8799) into mine own bosom <2436>.
14. I behaved <1980>(8694) myself as though he had been my friend <7453> or brother <251>: I bowed down <7817>(8804) heavily <6937>(8802), as one that mourneth <57> for his mother <517>.
15. But in mine adversity <6761> they rejoiced <8055>(8804), and gathered themselves together <622>(8738): yea, the abjects <5222> gathered themselves together <622>(8738) against me, and I knew <3045>(8804) it not; they did tear <7167>(8804) me, and ceased <1826>(8804) not:
16. With hypocritical <2611> mockers <3934> in feasts <4580>, they gnashed <2786>(8800) upon me with their teeth <8127>.
17. Lord <136>, how long wilt thou look on <7200>(8799)? rescue <7725>(8685) my soul <5315> from their destructions <7722>, my darling <3173> from the lions <3715>.
18. I will give thee thanks <3034>(8686) in the great <7227> congregation <6951>: I will praise <1984>(8762) thee among much <6099> people <5971>.
19. Let not them that are mine enemies <341>(8802) wrongfully <8267> rejoice <8055>(8799) over me: neither let them wink <7169>(8799) with the eye <5869> that hate <8130>(8802) me without a cause <2600>.
20. For they speak <1696>(8762) not peace <7965>: but they devise <2803>(8799) deceitful <4820> matters <1697> against them that are quiet <7282> in the land <776>.
21. Yea, they opened their mouth <6310> wide <7337>(8686) against me, and said <559>(8804), Aha <1889>, aha <1889>, our eye <5869> hath seen <7200>(8804) it.
22. This thou hast seen <7200>(8804), O LORD <3068>: keep not silence <2790>(8799): O Lord <136>, be not far <7368>(8799) from me.
23. Stir up <5782>(8685) thyself, and awake <6974>(8685) to my judgment <4941>, even unto my cause <7379>, my God <430> and my Lord <136>.
24. Judge <8199>(8798) me, O LORD <3068> my God <430>, according to thy righteousness <6664>; and let them not rejoice <8055>(8799) over me.
25. Let them not say <559>(8799) in their hearts <3820>, Ah <1889>, so would <5315> we have it: let them not say <559>(8799), We have swallowed him up <1104>(8765).
26. Let them be ashamed <954>(8799) and brought to confusion <2659>(8799) together <3162> that rejoice <8056> at mine hurt <7451>: let them be clothed <3847>(8799) with shame <1322> and dishonour <3639> that magnify <1431>(8688) themselves against me.
27. Let them shout for joy <7442>(8799), and be glad <8055>(8799), that favour <2655> my righteous cause <6664>: yea, let them say <559>(8799) continually <8548>, Let the LORD <3068> be magnified <1431>(8799), which hath pleasure <2655> in the prosperity <7965> of his servant <5650>.
28. And my tongue <3956> shall speak <1897>(8799) of thy righteousness <6664> and of thy praise <8416> all the day <3117> long.

V.34 The two blind men's persistence appears from the fact that instead of being quiet, they cry all the louder. Finally, the blessing which Jesus bestows on them becomes evident in that not only are they healed, but are treated with marvelous compassion and tenderness.

v9 The denarius was a small silver coin. In a sense, it survived a long time. English coinage prior to 1971 was reckoned in pounds, shillings and pence, commonly abbreviated to L-S-D. The "D" stood for the denarius.

21:20-21 All the disciples had been promises places of honour in the coming kingdom of God – Matt 19:28 – but that was not sufficient for two of the disciples. Encouraging their mother they seek even greater status. This request brought about the “indignation” of the other disciples - :24 – even though Jesus had told the two that he was not in a position to grant their requests.
All of the disciples were at fault. The two for even asking for honour and the rest for their response which, in itself, was selfish. How do we compare when looking at our fellow believers?

1. For <1063> the kingdom <932> of heaven <3772> is <2076>(5748) like <3664> unto a man <444> that is an householder <3617>, which <3748> went out <1831>(5627) early in the morning <260> <4404> to hire <3409>(5670) labourers <2040> into <1519> his <848> vineyard <290>.
2. And <1161> when he had agreed <4856>(5660) with <3326> the labourers <2040> for <1537> a penny <1220> a day <2250>, he sent <649>(5656) them <846> into <1519> his <848> vineyard <290>.
3. And <2532> he went out <1831>(5631) about <4012> the third <5154> hour <5610>, and saw <1492>(5627) others <243> standing <2476>(5761) idle <692> in <1722> the marketplace <58>,
4. And said <2036>(5627) unto them <2548>; Go <5217>(5720) ye <5210> also <2532> into <1519> the vineyard <290>, and <2532> whatsoever <1437> is <5600>(5753) right <1342> I will give <1325>(5692) you <5213>. And <1161> they went their way <565>(5627).
5. Again <3825> he went out <1831>(5631) about <4012> the sixth <1623> and <2532> ninth <1766> hour <5610>, and did <4160>(5656) likewise <5615>.
6. And <1161> about <4012> the eleventh <1734> hour <5610> he went out <1831>(5631), and found <2147>(5627) others <243> standing <2476>(5761) idle <692>, and <2532> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Why <5101> stand ye <2476>(5758) here <5602> all <3650> the day <2250> idle <692>?
7. They say <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Because <3754> no man <3762> hath hired <3409>(5668) us <2248>. He saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Go <5217>(5720) ye <5210> also <2532> into <1519> the vineyard <290>; and <2532> whatsoever <1437> is <5600>(5753) right <1342>, that shall ye receive <2983>(5695).
8. So <1161> when even <3798> was come <1096>(5637), the lord <2962> of the vineyard <290> saith <3004>(5719) unto his <848> steward <2012>, Call <2564>(5657) the labourers <2040>, and <2532> give <591>(5628) them <846> their hire <3408>, beginning <756>(5671) from <575> the last <2078> unto <2193> the first <4413>.
9. And <2532> when they came <2064>(5631) that were hired about <4012> the eleventh <1734> hour <5610>, they received <2983>(5627) every man <303> a penny <1220>.
10. But <1161> when the first <4413> came <2064>(5631), they supposed <3543>(5656) that <3754> they should have received <2983>(5695) more <4119>; and <2532> they likewise <2532> received <2983>(5627) every man <303> a penny <1220>.
11. And <1161> when they had received <2983>(5631) it, they murmured <1111>(5707) against <2596> the goodman of the house <3617>,
12. <3754> Saying <3004>(5723), These <3778> last <2078> have wrought <4160>(5656) but one <3391> hour <5610>, and <2532> thou hast made <4160>(5656) them <846> equal <2470> unto us <2254>, which <3588> have borne <941>(5660) the burden <922> and <2532> heat <2742> of the day <2250>.
13. But <1161> he answered <611>(5679) one <1520> of them <846>, and said <2036>(5627), Friend <2083>, I do <91> <0> thee <4571> no <3756> wrong <91>(5719): didst <4856> <0> not <3780> thou agree <4856>(5656) with me <3427> for a penny <1220>?
14. Take <142>(5657) that thine <4674> is, and <2532> go thy way <5217>(5720): <1161> I will <2309>(5719) give <1325>(5629) unto this <5129> last <2078>, even <2532> as <5613> unto thee <4671>.
15. <2228> Is it not <3756> lawful <1832>(5748) for me <3427> to do <4160>(5658) what <3739> I will <2309>(5719)(5725) with <1722> mine own <1699>? <2228> Is <2076>(5748) thine <4675> eye <3788> evil <4190>, because <3754> I <1473> am <1510>(5748) good <18>?
16. So <3779> the last <2078> shall be <2071>(5704) first <4413>, and <2532> the first <4413> last <2078>: for <1063> many <4183> be <1526>(5748) called <2822>, but <1161> few <3641> chosen <1588>.
17. And <2532> Jesus <2424> going up <305>(5723) to <1519> Jerusalem <2414> took <3880>(5627) the twelve <1427> disciples <3101> apart <2596> <2398> in <1722> the way <3598>, and <2532> said <2036>(5627) unto them <846>,
18. Behold <2400>(5628), we go up <305>(5719) to <1519> Jerusalem <2414>; and <2532> the Son <5207> of man <444> shall be betrayed <3860>(5701) unto the chief priests <749> and <2532> unto the scribes <1122>, and <2532> they shall condemn <2632>(5692) him <846> to death <2288>,
19. And <2532> shall deliver <3860>(5692) him <846> to the Gentiles <1484> to <1519> mock <1702>(5658), and <2532> to scourge <3146>(5658), and <2532> to crucify <4717>(5658) him: and <2532> the third <5154> day <2250> he shall rise again <450>(5698).
20. Then <5119> came <4334>(5627) to him <846> the mother <3384> of Zebedee's <2199> children <5207> with <3326> her <848> sons <5207>, worshipping <4352>(5723) him, and <2532> desiring <154>(5723) a certain <5100> thing <3844> of him <846>.
21. And <1161> he said <2036>(5627) unto her <846>, What <5101> wilt thou <2309>(5719)? She saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Grant <2036>(5628) that <2443> these <3778> my <3450> two <1417> sons <5207> may sit <2523>(5661), the one <1520> on <1537> thy <4675> right hand <1188>, and <2532> the other <1520> on <1537> the left <2176>, in <1722> thy <4675> kingdom <932>.
22. But <1161> Jesus <2424> answered <611>(5679) and said <2036>(5627), Ye know <1492>(5758) not <3756> what <5101> ye ask <154>(5731). Are ye able <1410>(5736) to drink <4095>(5629) of the cup <4221> that I <1473> shall <3195>(5719) drink of <4095>(5721), and <2532> to be baptized <907>(5743) with the baptism <908> that <3739> I <1473> am baptized with <907>(5683)? They say <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, We are able <1410>(5736).
23. And <2532> he saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Ye shall drink <4095>(5695) indeed <3303> of my <3450> cup <4221>, and <2532> be baptized <907>(5743) with the baptism <908> that <3739> I <1473> am baptized with <907>(5701): but <1161> to sit <2523>(5658) on <1537> my <3450> right hand <1188>, and <2532> on <1537> my <3450> left <2176>, is <2076>(5748) not <3756> mine <1699> to give <1325>(5629), but <235> it shall be given to them for whom <3739> it is prepared <2090>(5769) of <5259> my <3450> Father <3962>.
24. And <2532> when the ten <1176> heard <191>(5660) it, they were moved with indignation <23>(5656) against <4012> the two <1417> brethren <80>.
25. But <1161> Jesus <2424> called <4341>(5666) them <846> unto him, and said <2036>(5627), Ye know <1492>(5758) that <3754> the princes <758> of the Gentiles <1484> exercise dominion over <2634>(5719) them <846>, and <2532> they that are great <3173> exercise authority upon <2715>(5719) them <846>.
26. But <1161> it shall <2071> <0> not <3756> be <2071>(5704) so <3779> among <1722> you <5213>: but <235> whosoever <1437> will <2309>(5725) be <1096>(5635) great <3173> among <1722> you <5213>, let him be <2077>(5749) your <5216> minister <1249>;
27. And <2532> whosoever <1437> will <2309>(5725) be <1511>(5750) chief <4413> among <1722> you <5213>, let him be <2077>(5749) your <5216> servant <1401>:
28. Even as <5618> the Son <5207> of man <444> came <2064>(5627) not <3756> to be ministered unto <1247>(5683), but <235> to minister <1247>(5658), and <2532> to give <1325>(5629) his <848> life <5590> a ransom <3083> for <473> many <4183>.
29. And <2532> as they departed <1607>(5740) from <575> Jericho <2410>, a great <4183> multitude <3793> followed <190>(5656) him <846>.
30. And <2532>, behold <2400>(5628), two <1417> blind men <5185> sitting <2521>(5740) by the way <3598> side <3844>, when they heard <191>(5660) that <3754> Jesus <2424> passed by <3855>(5719), cried out <2896>(5656), saying <3004>(5723), Have mercy <1653>(5657) on us <2248>, O Lord <2962>, thou Son <5207> of David <1138>.
31. And <1161> the multitude <3793> rebuked <2008>(5656) them <846>, because <2443> they should hold their peace <4623>(5661): but <1161> they cried <2896>(5707) the more <3185>, saying <3004>(5723), Have mercy <1653>(5657) on us <2248>, O Lord <2962>, thou Son <5207> of David <1138>.
32. And <2532> Jesus <2424> stood still <2476>(5631), and called <5455>(5656) them <846>, and <2532> said <2036>(5627), What <5101> will ye <2309>(5719) that I shall do <4160>(5661) unto you <5213>?
33. They say <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Lord <2962>, that <2443> our <2257> eyes <3788> may be opened <455>(5686).
34. So <1161> Jesus <2424> had compassion <4697>(5679) on them, and touched <680>(5662) their <846> eyes <3788>: and <2532> immediately <2112> their <846> eyes <3788> received sight <308>(5656), and <2532> they followed <190>(5656) him <846>.
