NEVER TOO LATE
By the time Ahaz was king of Judah, the Northern tribes in Israel were about as bad as they could get. It was only 21 years after Ahaz took the throne in Judah, that their bothers in Israel were carried away into captivity. God had warned Israel time after time, and pointed out their sins through his prophets, much of which has been recorded for us. In 2 Kings 17 we can also see a condensed list of the sins that caused Israel to be evicted from God's land.
But even though Israel was so depraved, they were still able to respond to guilt from their greater sins. After Pekah son of Remaliah, king of Israel, defeated Judah, the prophet Oded warned Israel of their sin in taking out such a rage against Judah, and carrying off their brothers as slaves. And the people of Israel responded! Even though they were so hardened in their sins and we would have thought there would have been no room for a response of their conscience, they did not want to add to their guilt by sinning even more.
This instance can give us hope as we try to influence people who seem to be too set in their ways to change for the better. No matter how bad a person is, there is always hope. Let's not give up on anyone, but always keep trying to turn them towards God.

When reading this chapter, we should also read Isa 7 for background. Having done that, it is interesting to speculate who Immanuel is (are) that is mentioned.

2 Chronicles 28
YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE
"Why is all this trouble coming on me?", we might ask. Perhaps the answer lies in the fact that God loves you and
"the Lord disciplines those he loves." (
Heb 12:6) He is not willing that any should perish and so he does the best for us to turn us toward him.
Ahaz seems to have been one such example. After starting off not doing what was right in the eyes of the LORD, he went from bad to worse almost going out of his way to make God react in anger against him. God did respond, but not in anger. Time after time God brought about circumstances designed to show that he was in control and that all the idols, power and riches Ahaz trusted in were of no worth at all. But Ahaz refused to get the message. Instead, every time God struck another blow on Judah, Ahaz would look anywhere else but to God. Ahaz had a sixteen year reign full of trouble. God was working in his life but Ahaz refused to take any notice.
Why do we have trouble in our lives? Is God trying to get our attention? Is he trying to tell us something? God loves us. Punishment comes at the judgement if we deserve it, but in the meantime God disciplines us and anything that happens to us is for our own good.
Let's not be like Ahaz, but turn to God, respond to his love, and draw closer to him.

1. Ahaz <271> was twenty <6242> years <8141> old <1121> when he began to reign <4427>(8800), and he reigned <4427>(8804) sixteen <8337> <6240> years <8141> in Jerusalem <3389>: but he did <6213>(8804) not that which was right <3477> in the sight <5869> of the LORD <3068>, like David <1732> his father <1>:
2. For he walked in <3212>(8799) the ways <1870> of the kings <4428> of Israel <3478>, and made <6213>(8804) also molten images <4541> for Baalim <1168>.
3. Moreover he burnt incense <6999>(8689) in the valley <1516> of the son <1121> of Hinnom <2011>, and burnt <1197>(8686) his children <1121> in the fire <784>, after the abominations <8441> of the heathen <1471> whom the LORD <3068> had cast out <3423>(8689) before <6440> the children <1121> of Israel <3478>.
4. He sacrificed <2076>(8762) also and burnt incense <6999>(8762) in the high places <1116>, and on the hills <1389>, and under every green <7488> tree <6086>.
5. Wherefore the LORD <3068> his God <430> delivered <5414>(8799) him into the hand <3027> of the king <4428> of Syria <758>; and they smote <5221>(8686) him, and carried away <7617>(8799) a great multitude <1419> of them captives <7633>, and brought <935>(8686) them to Damascus <1834>. And he was also delivered <5414>(8737) into the hand <3027> of the king <4428> of Israel <3478>, who smote <5221>(8686) him with a great <1419> slaughter <4347>.
6. For Pekah <6492> the son <1121> of Remaliah <7425> slew <2026>(8799) in Judah <3063> an hundred <3967> and twenty <6242> thousand <505> in one <259> day <3117>, which were all valiant <2428> men <1121>; because they had forsaken <5800>(8800) the LORD <3068> God <430> of their fathers <1>.
7. And Zichri <2147>, a mighty man <1368> of Ephraim <669>, slew <2026>(8799) Maaseiah <4641> the king's <4428> son <1121>, and Azrikam <5840> the governor <5057> of the house <1004>, and Elkanah <511> that was next <4932> to the king <4428>.
8. And the children <1121> of Israel <3478> carried away captive <7617>(8799) of their brethren <251> two hundred <3967> thousand <505>, women <802>, sons <1121>, and daughters <1323>, and took also away <962>(8804) much <7227> spoil <7998> from them, and brought <935>(8686) the spoil <7998> to Samaria <8111>.
9. But a prophet <5030> of the LORD <3068> was there, whose name <8034> was Oded <5752>: and he went out <3318>(8799) before <6440> the host <6635> that came <935>(8802) to Samaria <8111>, and said <559>(8799) unto them, Behold, because the LORD <3068> God <430> of your fathers <1> was wroth <2534> with Judah <3063>, he hath delivered <5414>(8804) them into your hand <3027>, and ye have slain <2026>(8799) them in a rage <2197> that reacheth up <5060>(8689) unto heaven <8064>.
10. And now ye purpose <559>(8802) to keep <3533>(8800) under the children <1121> of Judah <3063> and Jerusalem <3389> for bondmen <5650> and bondwomen <8198> unto you: but are there not with you, even <7535> with you, sins <819> against the LORD <3068> your God <430>?
11. Now hear <8085>(8798) me therefore, and deliver <7725>(8685) the captives <7633> again, which ye have taken captive <7617>(8804) of your brethren <251>: for the fierce <2740> wrath <639> of the LORD <3068> is upon you.
12. Then certain <582> of the heads <7218> of the children <1121> of Ephraim <669>, Azariah <5838> the son <1121> of Johanan <3076>, Berechiah <1296> the son <1121> of Meshillemoth <4919>, and Jehizkiah <3169> the son <1121> of Shallum <7967>, and Amasa <6021> the son <1121> of Hadlai <2311>, stood up <6965>(8799) against them that came <935>(8802) from the war <6635>,
13. And said <559>(8799) unto them, Ye shall not bring in <935>(8686) the captives <7633> hither: for whereas we have offended <819> against the LORD <3068> already, ye intend <559>(8802) to add <3254>(8687) more to our sins <2403> and to our trespass <819>: for our trespass <819> is great <7227>, and there is fierce <2740> wrath <639> against Israel <3478>.
14. So the armed men <2502>(8803) left <5800>(8799) the captives <7633> and the spoil <961> before <6440> the princes <8269> and all the congregation <6951>.
15. And the men <582> which were expressed <5344>(8738) by name <8034> rose up <6965>(8799), and took <2388>(8686) the captives <7633>, and with the spoil <7998> clothed <3847>(8689) all that were naked <4636> among them, and arrayed <3847>(8686) them, and shod <5274>(8686) them, and gave them to eat <398>(8686) and to drink <8248>(8686), and anointed <5480>(8799) them, and carried <5095>(8762) all the feeble <3782>(8802) of them upon asses <2543>, and brought <935>(8686) them to Jericho <3405>, the city <5892> of palm trees <8558>(8677) <5899>, to <681> their brethren <251>: then they returned <7725>(8799) to Samaria <8111>.
16. At that time <6256> did king <4428> Ahaz <271> send <7971>(8804) unto the kings <4428> of Assyria <804> to help <5826>(8800) him.
17. For again the Edomites <130> had come <935>(8804) and smitten <5221>(8686) Judah <3063>, and carried away <7617>(8799) captives <7628>.
18. The Philistines <6430> also had invaded <6584>(8804) the cities <5892> of the low country <8219>, and of the south <5045> of Judah <3063>, and had taken <3920>(8799) Bethshemesh <1053>, and Ajalon <357>, and Gederoth <1450>, and Shocho <7755> with the villages <1323> thereof, and Timnah <8553> with the villages <1323> thereof, Gimzo <1579> also and the villages <1323> thereof: and they dwelt <3427>(8799) there.
19. For the LORD <3068> brought <3665> <0> Judah <3063> low <3665>(8689) because of Ahaz <271> king <4428> of Israel <3478>; for he made <6544> <0> Judah <3063> naked <6544>(8689), and transgressed <4603>(8800) sore <4604> against the LORD <3068>.
20. And Tilgathpilneser <8407> king <4428> of Assyria <804> came <935>(8799) unto him, and distressed <6696>(8799) him, but strengthened <2388>(8804) him not.
21. For Ahaz <271> took away a portion <2505>(8804) out of the house <1004> of the LORD <3068>, and out of the house <1004> of the king <4428>, and of the princes <8269>, and gave <5414>(8799) it unto the king <4428> of Assyria <804>: but he helped <5833> him not.
22. And in the time <6256> of his distress <6887>(8687) did he trespass <4603>(8800) yet more <3254>(8686) against the LORD <3068>: this is that king <4428> Ahaz <271>.
23. For he sacrificed <2076>(8799) unto the gods <430> of Damascus <1834>, which smote <5221>(8688) him: and he said <559>(8799), Because the gods <430> of the kings <4428> of Syria <758> help <5826>(8688) them, therefore will I sacrifice <2076>(8762) to them, that they may help <5826>(8799) me. But they were the ruin <3782>(8687) of him, and of all Israel <3478>.
24. And Ahaz <271> gathered together <622>(8799) the vessels <3627> of the house <1004> of God <430>, and cut in pieces <7112>(8762) the vessels <3627> of the house <1004> of God <430>, and shut up <5462>(8799) the doors <1817> of the house <1004> of the LORD <3068>, and he made <6213>(8799) him altars <4196> in every corner <6438> of Jerusalem <3389>.
25. And in every several city <5892> of Judah <3063> he made <6213>(8804) high places <1116> to burn incense <6999>(8763) unto other <312> gods <430>, and provoked to anger <3707>(8686) the LORD <3068> God <430> of his fathers <1>.
26. Now the rest <3499> of his acts <1697> and of all his ways <1870>, first <7223> and last <314>, behold, they are written <3789>(8803) in the book <5612> of the kings <4428> of Judah <3063> and Israel <3478>.
27. And Ahaz <271> slept <7901>(8799) with his fathers <1>, and they buried <6912>(8799) him in the city <5892>, even in Jerusalem <3389>: but they brought <935>(8689) him not into the sepulchres <6913> of the kings <4428> of Israel <3478>: and Hezekiah <3169> his son <1121> reigned <4427>(8799) in his stead.
Notes that are not verse specific
Chapter 8 marks the beginning of a new section of the book, indicated by a change of language in keeping with the change of thought From 2:4 to 7:28 was written in Aramaic; but chapter 8 on, the language returns to Hebrew. The prophecy is now more particularly occupied with the history of the nations as it directly effects Israel.

1. In the third <7969> year <8141> of the reign <4438> of king <4428> Belshazzar <1112> a vision <2377> appeared <7200>(8738) unto me, even unto me Daniel <1840>, after <310> that which appeared <7200>(8738) unto me at the first <8462>.
2. And I saw <7200>(8799) in a vision <2377>; and it came to pass, when I saw <7200>(8800), that I was at Shushan <7800> in the palace <1002>, which is in the province <4082> of Elam <5867>; and I saw <7200>(8799) in a vision <2377>, and I was by the river <180> of Ulai <195>.
3. Then I lifted up <5375>(8799) mine eyes <5869>, and saw <7200>(8799), and, behold, there stood <5975>(8802) before <6440> the river <180> a <259> ram <352> which had two horns <7161>: and the two horns <7161> were high <1364>; but one <259> was higher <1364> than the other <8145>, and the higher <1364> came up <5927>(8802) last <314>.
4. I saw <7200>(8804) the ram <352> pushing <5055>(8764) westward <3220>, and northward <6828>, and southward <5045>; so that no beasts <2416> might stand <5975>(8799) before <6440> him, neither was there any that could deliver <5337>(8688) out of his hand <3027>; but he did <6213>(8804) according to his will <7522>, and became great <1431>(8689).
5. And as I was considering <995>(8688), behold, an he <5795> goat <6842> came <935>(8802) from the west <4628> on the face <6440> of the whole earth <776>, and touched <5060>(8802) not the ground <776>: and the goat <6842> had a notable <2380> horn <7161> between his eyes <5869>.
6. And he came <935>(8799) to the ram <352> that had <1167> two horns <7161>, which I had seen <7200>(8804) standing <5975>(8802) before <6440> the river <180>, and ran <7323>(8799) unto him in the fury <2534> of his power <3581>.
7. And I saw <7200>(8804) him come <5060>(8688) close <681> unto the ram <352>, and he was moved with choler <4843>(8698) against him, and smote <5221>(8686) the ram <352>, and brake <7665>(8762) his two <8147> horns <7161>: and there was no power <3581> in the ram <352> to stand <5975>(8800) before <6440> him, but he cast him down <7993>(8686) to the ground <776>, and stamped <7429>(8799) upon him: and there was none that could deliver <5337>(8688) the ram <352> out of his hand <3027>.
8. Therefore the he <6842> goat <5795> waxed very <3966> great <1431>(8689): and when he was strong <6105>(8800), the great <1419> horn <7161> was broken <7665>(8738); and for it came up <5927>(8799) four <702> notable ones <2380> toward the four <702> winds <7307> of heaven <8064>.
9. And out of one <259> of them came forth <3318>(8804) a little <4704> horn <7161>, which waxed exceeding <3499> great <1431>(8799), toward the south <5045>, and toward the east <4217>, and toward the pleasant <6643> land.
10. And it waxed great <1431>(8799), even to the host <6635> of heaven <8064>; and it cast down <5307>(8686) some of the host <6635> and of the stars <3556> to the ground <776>, and stamped <7429>(8799) upon them.
11. Yea, he magnified <1431>(8689) himself even to the prince <8269> of the host <6635>, and by him the daily <8548> sacrifice was taken away <7311>(8717)(8675) <7311>(8689), and the place <4349> of his sanctuary <4720> was cast down <7993>(8717).
12. And an host <6635> was given <5414>(8735) him against the daily <8548> sacrifice by reason of transgression <6588>, and it cast down <7993>(8686) the truth <571> to the ground <776>; and it practised <6213>(8804), and prospered <6743>(8689).
13. Then I heard <8085>(8799) one <259> saint <6918> speaking <1696>(8764), and another <259> saint <6918> said <559>(8799) unto that certain <6422> saint which spake <1696>(8764), How long shall be the vision <2377> concerning the daily <8548> sacrifice, and the transgression <6588> of desolation <8074>(8802), to give <5414>(8800) both the sanctuary <6944> and the host <6635> to be trodden under foot <4823>?
14. And he said <559>(8799) unto me, Unto two thousand <505> and three <7969> hundred <3967> days <6153> <1242>; then shall the sanctuary <6944> be cleansed <6663>(8738).
15. And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel <1840>, had seen <7200>(8800) the vision <2377>, and sought <1245>(8762) for the meaning <998>, then, behold, there stood <5975>(8802) before me as the appearance <4758> of a man <1397>.
16. And I heard <8085>(8799) a man's <120> voice <6963> between the banks of Ulai <195>, which called <7121>(8799), and said <559>(8799), Gabriel <1403>, make this <1975> man to understand <995>(8685) the vision <4758>.
17. So he came <935>(8799) near <681> where I stood <5977>: and when he came <935>(8800), I was afraid <1204>(8738), and fell <5307>(8799) upon my face <6440>: but he said <559>(8799) unto me, Understand <995>(8685), O son <1121> of man <120>: for at the time <6256> of the end <7093> shall be the vision <2377>.
18. Now as he was speaking <1696>(8763) with me, I was in a deep sleep <7290>(8738) on my face <6440> toward the ground <776>: but he touched <5060>(8799) me, and set <5975>(8686) me upright <5977>.
19. And he said <559>(8799), Behold, I will make thee know <3045>(8688) what shall be in the last end <319> of the indignation <2195>: for at the time appointed <4150> the end <7093> shall be.
20. The ram <352> which thou sawest <7200>(8804) having <1167> two horns <7161> are the kings <4428> of Media <4074> and Persia <6539>.
21. And the rough <8163> goat <6842> is the king <4428> of Grecia <3120>: and the great <1419> horn <7161> that is between his eyes <5869> is the first <7223> king <4428>.
22. Now that being broken <7665>(8737), whereas four <702> stood up <5975>(8799) for it, four <702> kingdoms <4438> shall stand up <5975>(8799) out of the nation <1471>, but not in his power <3581>.
23. And in the latter time <319> of their kingdom <4438>, when the transgressors <6586>(8802) are come to the full <8552>(8687), a king <4428> of fierce <5794> countenance <6440>, and understanding <995>(8688) dark sentences <2420>, shall stand up <5975>(8799).
24. And his power <3581> shall be mighty <6105>(8804), but not by his own power <3581>: and he shall destroy <7843>(8686) wonderfully <6381>(8737), and shall prosper <6743>(8689), and practise <6213>(8804), and shall destroy <7843>(8689) the mighty <6099> and the holy <6918> people <5971>.
25. And through his policy <7922> also he shall cause craft <4820> to prosper <6743>(8689) in his hand <3027>; and he shall magnify <1431>(8686) himself in his heart <3824>, and by peace <7962> shall destroy <7843>(8686) many <7227>: he shall also stand up <5975>(8799) against the Prince <8269> of princes <8269>; but he shall be broken <7665>(8735) without <657> hand <3027>.
26. And the vision <4758> of the evening <6153> and the morning <1242> which was told <559>(8738) is true <571>: wherefore shut thou up <5640>(8798) the vision <2377>; for it shall be for many <7227> days <3117>.
27. And I Daniel <1840> fainted <1961>(8738), and was sick <2470>(8738) certain days <3117>; afterward I rose up <6965>(8799), and did <6213>(8799) the king's <4428> business <4399>; and I was astonished <8074>(8709) at the vision <4758>, but none understood <995>(8688) it.
Notes that are not verse specific
8:19 Whilst Daniel was being shown strange and wonderful things he did not appreciate their significance. This caused him to think about what he was being shown. At times it saddened him but he persisted only to be told some times that he would not understand what he was seeing.
How do we view the future and the things we have been told about it in the scriptures?
Do we ponder and reflect on what we rad? Are we willing to change our minds as we possibly see events unfold differently from what we expect?
Or do we simply rely on the work of others.
The value of reading scripture for ourselves is that we learn valuable lessons about how faithful believers behave in circumstances that the do not fully understand.

And <1161> at <1722> that <1565> time <2250> there was <1096>(5633) a great <3173> persecution <1375> against <1909> the church <1577> which <3588> was at <1722> Jerusalem <2414>; and <5037> they were <1289> <0> all <3956> scattered abroad <1289>(5681) throughout <2596> the regions <5561> of Judaea <2449> and <2532> Samaria <4540>, except <4133> the apostles <652>.
2. And <1161> devout <2126> men <435> carried <4792>(5656) Stephen <4736> to his burial, and <2532> made <4160>(5668) great <3173> lamentation <2870> over <1909> him <846>.
3. As <1161> for Saul <4569>, he made havock <3075>(5711) of the church <1577>, entering into <1531>(5740)(5734) every <2596> house <3624>, and haling <4951>(5723) <5037> men <435> and <2532> women <1135> committed <3860>(5707) them to <1519> prison <5438>.
4. Therefore <3767> <3303> they that were scattered abroad <1289>(5651) went every where <1330>(5627) preaching <2097>(5734) the word <3056>.
5. Then <1161> Philip <5376> went down <2718>(5631) to <1519> the city <4172> of Samaria <4540>, and preached <2784>(5707) Christ <5547> unto them <846>.
6. And <5037> the people <3793> with one accord <3661> gave heed <4337>(5707) unto those things which Philip <5376> spake <3004>(5746) <5259>, hearing <1722> <191>(5721) and <2532> seeing <991>(5721) the miracles <4592> which <3739> he did <4160>(5707).
7. For <1063> unclean <169> spirits <4151>, crying <994>(5723) with loud <3173> voice <5456>, came out <1831>(5711) of many <4183> that were possessed <2192>(5723) with them: and <1161> many <4183> taken with palsies <3886>(5772), and <2532> that were lame <5560>, were healed <2323>(5681).
8. And <2532> there was <1096>(5633) great <3173> joy <5479> in <1722> that <1565> city <4172>.
9. But <1161> there was a certain <5100> man <435>, called <3686> Simon <4613>, which beforetime <4391>(5707) in <1722> the same city <4172> used sorcery <3096>(5723), and <2532> bewitched <1839>(5723) the people <1484> of Samaria <4540>, giving out <3004>(5723) that himself <1438> was <1511>(5750) some <5100> great one <3173>:
10. To whom <3739> they all <3956> gave heed <4337>(5707), from <575> the least <3398> to <2193> the greatest <3173>, saying <3004>(5723), This man <3778> is <2076>(5748) the great <3173> power <1411> of God <2316>.
11. And <1161> to him <846> they had regard <4337>(5707), because <1223> that of long <2425> time <5550> he had bewitched <1839>(5760) them <846> with sorceries <3095>.
12. But <1161> when <3753> they believed <4100>(5656) Philip <5376> preaching <2097>(5734) the things concerning <4012> the kingdom <932> of God <2316>, and <2532> the name <3686> of Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>, they were baptized <907>(5712), both <5037> men <435> and <2532> women <1135>.
13. Then <1161> Simon <4613> himself <846> believed <4100>(5656) also <2532>: and <2532> when he was baptized <907>(5685), he continued <2258>(5713) <4342>(5723) with Philip <5376>, and <5037> wondered <1839>(5710), beholding <2334>(5723) the miracles <1411> and <2532> signs <4592> <3173> which were done <1096>(5740)(5625) <1096>(5740).
14. Now <1161> when the apostles <652> which <3588> were at <1722> Jerusalem <2414> heard <191>(5660) that <3754> Samaria <4540> had received <1209>(5766) the word <3056> of God <2316>, they sent <649>(5656) unto <4314> them <846> Peter <4074> and <2532> John <2491>:
15. Who <3748>, when they were come down <2597>(5631), prayed <4336>(5662) for <4012> them <846>, that <3704> they might receive <2983>(5632) the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>:
16. (For <1063> as yet <3768> he was <2258>(5713) fallen <1968>(5761) upon <1909> none <3762> of them <846>: only <3440> <1161> they were <5225>(5707) baptized <907>(5772) in <1519> the name <3686> of the Lord <2962> Jesus <2424>.)
17. Then <5119> laid they <2007>(5707) their hands <5495> on <1909> them <846>, and <2532> they received <2983>(5707) the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>.
18. And <1161> when Simon <4613> saw <2300>(5666) that <3754> through <1223> laying on <1936> of the apostles <652>' hands <5495> the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> was given <1325>(5743), he offered <4374>(5656) them <846> money <5536>,
19. Saying <3004>(5723), Give <1325>(5628) me also <2504> this <5026> power <1849>, that <2443> on <2007> <0> whomsoever <3739> <302> I lay <2007>(5632) hands <5495>, he may receive <2983>(5725) the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>.
20. But <1161> Peter <4074> said <2036>(5627) unto <4314> him <846>, Thy <4675> money <694> perish <1498>(5751) <1519> <684> with <4862> thee <4671>, because <3754> thou hast thought <3543>(5656) that the gift <1431> of God <2316> may be purchased <2932>(5738) with <1223> money <5536>.
21. Thou <4671> hast <2076>(5748) neither <3756> part <3310> nor <3761> lot <2819> in <1722> this <5129> matter <3056>: for <1063> thy <4675> heart <2588> is <2076>(5748) not <3756> right <2117> in the sight <1799> of God <2316>.
22. Repent <3340>(5657) therefore <3767> of <575> this <5026> thy <4675> wickedness <2549>, and <2532> pray <1189>(5676) God <2316>, if <1487> perhaps <686> the thought <1963> of thine <4675> heart <2588> may be forgiven <863>(5701) thee <4671>.
23. For <1063> I perceive <3708>(5719) that thou <4571> art <5607>(5752) in <1519> the gall <5521> of bitterness <4088>, and <2532> in the bond <4886> of iniquity <93>.
24. Then <1161> answered <611>(5679) Simon <4613>, and said <2036>(5627), Pray <1189>(5676) ye <5210> to <4314> the Lord <2962> for <5228> me <1700>, that <3704> none of these things <3367> which <3739> ye have spoken <2046>(5758) come <1904>(5632) upon <1909> me <1691>.
25. And they, when <3303> <3767> they had testified <1263>(5666) and <2532> preached <2980>(5660) the word <3056> of the Lord <2962>, returned <5290>(5656) to <1519> Jerusalem <2419>, and <5037> preached the gospel <2097>(5668) in many <4183> villages <2968> of the Samaritans <4541>.
26. And <1161> the angel <32> of the Lord <2962> spake <2980>(5656) unto <4314> Philip <5376>, saying <3004>(5723), Arise <450>(5628), and <2532> go <4198>(5737) toward <2596> the south <3314> unto <1909> the way <3598> that goeth down <2597>(5723) from <575> Jerusalem <2419> unto <1519> Gaza <1048>, which <3778> is <2076>(5748) desert <2048>.
27. And <2532> he arose <450>(5631) and went <4198>(5675): and <2532>, behold <2400>(5628), a man <435> of Ethiopia <128>, an eunuch <2135> of great authority <1413> under Candace <2582> queen <938> of the Ethiopians <128>, who <3739> had <2258>(5713) the charge of <1909> all <3956> her <846> treasure <1047>, and had come <2064>(5715) to <1519> Jerusalem <2419> for to worship <4352>(5694),
28. <5037> Was <2258>(5713) returning <5290>(5723), and <2532> sitting <2521>(5740) in <1909> his <848> chariot <716> <2532> read <314>(5707) Esaias <2268> the prophet <4396>.
29. Then <1161> the Spirit <4151> said <2036>(5627) unto Philip <5376>, Go near <4334>(5628), and <2532> join thyself to <2853>(5682) this <5129> chariot <716>.
30. And <1161> Philip <5376> ran <4370>(5631) thither to him, and heard <191>(5656) him <846> read <314>(5723) the prophet <4396> Esaias <2268>, and <2532> said <2036>(5627), Understandest thou <687> <1065> <1097>(5719) what <3739> thou readest <314>(5719)?
31. And <1161> he said <2036>(5627), How <1063> <4459> can I <302> <1410>(5739), except <3362> some man <5100> should guide <3594>(5661) me <3165>? And <5037> he desired <3870>(5656) Philip <5376> that he would come up <305>(5631) and sit <2523>(5658) with <4862> him <846>.
32. <1161> The place <4042> of the scripture <1124> which <3739> he read <314>(5707) was <2258>(5713) this <3778>, He was led <71>(5681) as <5613> a sheep <4263> to <1909> the slaughter <4967>; and <2532> like <5613> a lamb <286> dumb <880> before <1726> his <846> shearer <2751>(5723), so <3779> opened he <455>(5719) not <3756> his <848> mouth <4750>:
33. In <1722> his <846> humiliation <5014> his <846> judgment <2920> was taken away <142>(5681): and <1161> who <5101> shall declare <1334>(5695) his <846> generation <1074>? for <3754> his <846> life <2222> is taken <142>(5743) from <575> the earth <1093>.
34. And <1161> the eunuch <2135> answered <611>(5679) Philip <5376>, and said <2036>(5627), I pray <1189>(5736) thee <4675>, of <4012> whom <5101> speaketh <3004>(5719) the prophet <4396> this <5124>? of <4012> himself <1438>, or <2228> of <4012> some <5100> other man <2087>?
35. Then <1161> Philip <5376> opened <455>(5660) his <848> mouth <4750>, and <2532> began <756>(5671) at <575> the same <5026> scripture <1124>, and preached <2097>(5668) unto him <846> Jesus <2424>.
36. And <1161> as <5613> they went <4198>(5711) on <2596> their way <3598>, they came <2064>(5627) unto <1909> a certain <5100> water <5204>: and <2532> the eunuch <2135> said <5346>(5748), See <2400>(5628), here is water <5204>; what <5101> doth hinder <2967>(5719) me <3165> to be baptized <907>(5683)?
37. And <1161> Philip <5376> said <2036>(5627), If <1487> thou believest <4100>(5719) with <1537> all thine <3650> heart <2588>, thou mayest <1832>(5748). And <1161> he answered <611>(5679) and said <2036>(5627), I believe <4100>(5719) that Jesus <2424> Christ <5547> is <1511>(5750) the Son <5207> of God <2316>.
38. And <2532> he commanded <2753>(5656) the chariot <716> to stand still <2476>(5629): and <2532> they went down <2597>(5627) both <297> into <1519> the water <5204>, both <5037> Philip <5376> and <2532> the eunuch <2135>; and <2532> he baptized <907>(5656) him <846>.
39. And <1161> when <3753> they were come up <305>(5627) out of <1537> the water <5204>, the Spirit <4151> of the Lord <2962> caught away <726>(5656) Philip <5376>, <2532> that the eunuch <2135> saw <1492>(5627) <3756> him <846> no more <3765>: and <1063> he went <4198>(5711) on his <848> way <3598> rejoicing <5463>(5723).
40. But <1161> Philip <5376> was found <2147>(5681) at <1519> Azotus <108>: and <2532> passing <1330>(5740) through he preached <2097>(5710) in all <3956> the cities <4172>, till <2193> he <846> came <2064>(5629) to <1519> Caesarea <2542>.
