NOT YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS
Moses left Israel in no doubt as to their worthiness to enter the promised land. He said, "After the LORD your God has driven them (your enemies) out before you, do not say to yourself, 'The LORD has brought me here to take possession of this land because of my righteousness.' No, it is on account of the wickedness of the nations that the LORD is going to drive them out before you. It is not because of your righteousness or integrity that you are going to take possession of the land ... understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people."
In the same way that God gave the land of Canaan to Israel even though they were stiff-necked sinners and could not earn it, so he has promised to take us into his kingdom when Jesus returns. But again, we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. Not one of us can earn our way into the kingdom by the things we do, because at the same time we sin, and the wages of sin is death. It is not our righteousness that will earn us the kingdom, but the grace of God, his forgiveness and love.
Let us give thanks to God that his love covers a multitude of sins. Hallelujah!

A spiritual result was aimed at in this ascetic rigour. Israel was made to know experimentally that men have not been brought into existence merely to indulge their appetites; that these appetites are but means; that they are only in their place when they are ministrant to the ultimate end of being: that this ultimate end is to serve the Lord with gladness in the worship of His greatness, and in the exercise of mercy and truth to fellow-man.
In this employment of created life, God, the Creator, receives pleasure, and man, benefit. The taste for such an employment of life is liable to be blunted, and finally destroyed, in the possession of abundance. Israel, luxuriating in plenty, would never have learnt the lesson which prepared their second generation for entering the land of promise as an accepted worshipping nation.
In poor, but sufficient living, they came to perceive that not bread alone, but the words and worshipping of Yahweh were a staple in truly civilised life (Deut 8:2-3)

1. All the commandments <4687> which I command <6680>(8764) thee this day <3117> shall ye observe <8104>(8799) to do <6213>(8800), that ye may live <2421>(8799), and multiply <7235>(8804), and go in <935>(8804) and possess <3423>(8804) the land <776> which the LORD <3068> sware <7650>(8738) unto your fathers <1>.
2. And thou shalt remember <2142>(8804) all the way <1870> which the LORD <3068> thy God <430> led <3212>(8689) thee these forty <705> years <8141> in the wilderness <4057>, to humble <6031>(8763) thee, and to prove <5254>(8763) thee, to know <3045>(8800) what was in thine heart <3824>, whether thou wouldest keep <8104>(8799) his commandments <4687>, or no.
3. And he humbled <6031>(8762) thee, and suffered thee to hunger <7456>(8686), and fed <398>(8686) thee with manna <4478>, which thou knewest <3045>(8804) not, neither did thy fathers <1> know <3045>(8804); that he might make thee know <3045>(8687) that man <120> doth not live <2421>(8799) by bread <3899> only <905>, but by every word that proceedeth <4161> out of the mouth <6310> of the LORD <3068> doth man <120> live <2421>(8799).
4. Thy raiment <8071> waxed not old <1086>(8804) upon thee, neither did thy foot <7272> swell <1216>(8804), these forty <705> years <8141>.
5. Thou shalt also consider <3045>(8804) in <5973> thine heart <3824>, that, as a man <376> chasteneth <3256>(8762) his son <1121>, so the LORD <3068> thy God <430> chasteneth <3256>(8764) thee.
6. Therefore thou shalt keep <8104>(8804) the commandments <4687> of the LORD <3068> thy God <430>, to walk <3212>(8800) in his ways <1870>, and to fear <3372>(8800) him.
7. For the LORD <3068> thy God <430> bringeth <935>(8688) thee into a good <2896> land <776>, a land <776> of brooks <5158> of water <4325>, of fountains <5869> and depths <8415> that spring out <3318>(8802) of valleys <1237> and hills <2022>;
8. A land <776> of wheat <2406>, and barley <8184>, and vines <1612>, and fig trees <8384>, and pomegranates <7416>; a land <776> of oil <8081> olive <2132>, and honey <1706>;
9. A land <776> wherein <834> thou shalt eat <398>(8799) bread <3899> without <3808> scarceness <4544>, thou shalt not lack <2637>(8799) any thing in it; a land <776> whose stones <68> are iron <1270>, and out of whose hills <2042> thou mayest dig <2672>(8799) brass <5178>.
10. When thou hast eaten <398>(8804) and art full <7646>(8804), then thou shalt bless <1288>(8765) the LORD <3068> thy God <430> for the good <2896> land <776> which he hath given <5414>(8804) thee.
11. Beware <8104>(8734) that thou forget <7911>(8799) not the LORD <3068> thy God <430>, in not keeping <8104>(8800) his commandments <4687>, and his judgments <4941>, and his statutes <2708>, which I command <6680>(8764) thee this day <3117>:
12. Lest when thou hast eaten <398>(8799) and art full <7646>(8804), and hast built <1129>(8799) goodly <2896> houses <1004>, and dwelt <3427>(8804) therein;
13. And when thy herds <1241> and thy flocks <6629> multiply <7235>(8799), and thy silver <3701> and thy gold <2091> is multiplied <7235>(8799), and all that thou hast is multiplied <7235>(8799);
14. Then thine heart <3824> be lifted up <7311>(8804), and thou forget <7911>(8804) the LORD <3068> thy God <430>, which brought thee forth <3318>(8688) out of the land <776> of Egypt <4714>, from the house <1004> of bondage <5650>;
15. Who led <3212>(8688) thee through that great <1419> and terrible <3372>(8737) wilderness <4057>, wherein were fiery <8314> serpents <5175>, and scorpions <6137>, and drought <6774>, where there was no water <4325>; who brought thee forth <3318>(8688) water <4325> out of the rock <6697> of flint <2496>;
16. Who fed <398>(8688) thee in the wilderness <4057> with manna <4478>, which thy fathers <1> knew <3045>(8804) not, that he might humble <6031>(8763) thee, and that he might prove <5254>(8763) thee, to do thee good <3190>(8687) at thy latter end <319>;
17. And thou say <559>(8804) in thine heart <3824>, My power <3581> and the might <6108> of mine hand <3027> hath gotten <6213>(8804) me this wealth <2428>.
18. But thou shalt remember <2142>(8804) the LORD <3068> thy God <430>: for it is he that giveth <5414>(8802) thee power <3581> to get <6213>(8800) wealth <2428>, that he may establish <6965>(8687) his covenant <1285> which he sware <7650>(8738) unto thy fathers <1>, as it is this day <3117>.
19. And it shall be, if thou do at all <7911>(8800) forget <7911>(8799) the LORD <3068> thy God <430>, and walk <1980>(8804) after <310> other <312> gods <430>, and serve <5647>(8804) them, and worship <7812>(8694) them, I testify <5749>(8689) against you this day <3117> that ye shall surely <6>(8800) perish <6>(8799).
20. As the nations <1471> which the LORD <3068> destroyeth <6>(8688) before your face <6440>, so shall ye perish <6>(8799); because <6118> ye would not be obedient <8085>(8799) unto the voice <6963> of the LORD <3068> your God <430>.
1. Hear <8085>(8798), O Israel <3478>: Thou art to pass over <5674>(8802) Jordan <3383> this day <3117>, to go in <935>(8800) to possess <3423>(8800) nations <1471> greater <1419> and mightier <6099> than thyself, cities <5892> great <1419> and fenced up <1219>(8803) to heaven <8064>,
2. A people <5971> great <1419> and tall <7311>(8802), the children <1121> of the Anakims <6062>, whom thou knowest <3045>(8804), and of whom thou hast heard <8085>(8804) say, Who can stand <3320>(8691) before <6440> the children <1121> of Anak <6061>!
3. Understand <3045>(8804) therefore this day <3117>, that the LORD <3068> thy God <430> is he which goeth over <5674>(8802) before <6440> thee; as a consuming <398>(8802) fire <784> he shall destroy <8045>(8686) them, and he shall bring them down <3665>(8686) before thy face <6440>: so shalt thou drive them out <3423>(8689), and destroy <6>(8689) them quickly <4118>, as the LORD <3068> hath said <1696>(8765) unto thee.
4. Speak <559>(8799) not thou in thine heart <3824>, after that the LORD <3068> thy God <430> hath cast them out <1920>(8800) from before <6440> thee, saying <559>(8800), For my righteousness <6666> the LORD <3068> hath brought me in <935>(8689) to possess <3423>(8800) this land <776>: but for the wickedness <7564> of these nations <1471> the LORD <3068> doth drive them out <3423>(8688) from before <6440> thee.
5. Not for thy righteousness <6666>, or for the uprightness <3476> of thine heart <3824>, dost thou go <935>(8802) to possess <3423>(8800) their land <776>: but for the wickedness <7564> of these nations <1471> the LORD <3068> thy God <430> doth drive them out <3423>(8688) from before <6440> thee, and that he may perform <6965>(8687) the word <1697> which the LORD <3068> sware <7650>(8738) unto thy fathers <1>, Abraham <85>, Isaac <3327>, and Jacob <3290>.
6. Understand <3045>(8804) therefore, that the LORD <3068> thy God <430> giveth <5414>(8802) thee not this good <2896> land <776> to possess <3423>(8800) it for thy righteousness <6666>; for thou art a stiffnecked <6203> <7186> people <5971>.
7. Remember <2142>(8798), and forget <7911>(8799) not, how thou provokedst the LORD <3068> thy God <430> to wrath <7107>(8689) in the wilderness <4057>: from <4480> the day <3117> that thou didst depart out <3318>(8804) of the land <776> of Egypt <4714>, until ye came <935>(8800) unto this place <4725>, ye have been rebellious <4784>(8688) against <5973> the LORD <3068>.
8. Also in Horeb <2722> ye provoked <7107> <0> the LORD <3068> to wrath <7107>(8689), so that the LORD <3068> was angry <599>(8691) with you to have destroyed <8045>(8687) you.
9. When I was gone up <5927>(8800) into the mount <2022> to receive <3947>(8800) the tables <3871> of stone <68>, even the tables <3871> of the covenant <1285> which the LORD <3068> made <3772>(8804) with you, then I abode <3427>(8799) in the mount <2022> forty <705> days <3117> and forty <705> nights <3915>, I neither did eat <398>(8804) bread <3899> nor drink <8354>(8804) water <4325>:
10. And the LORD <3068> delivered <5414>(8799) unto me two <8147> tables <3871> of stone <68> written <3789>(8803) with the finger <676> of God <430>; and on them was written according to all the words <1697>, which the LORD <3068> spake <1696>(8765) with you in the mount <2022> out of the midst <8432> of the fire <784> in the day <3117> of the assembly <6951>.
11. And it came to pass at the end <7093> of forty <705> days <3117> and forty <705> nights <3915>, that the LORD <3068> gave <5414>(8804) me the two <8147> tables <3871> of stone <68>, even the tables <3871> of the covenant <1285>.
12. And the LORD <3068> said <559>(8799) unto me, Arise <6965>(8798), get thee down <3381>(8798) quickly <4118> from hence; for thy people <5971> which thou hast brought forth <3318>(8689) out of Egypt <4714> have corrupted <7843>(8765) themselves; they are quickly <4118> turned aside <5493>(8804) out of the way <1870> which I commanded <6680>(8765) them; they have made <6213>(8804) them a molten image <4541>.
13. Furthermore the LORD <3068> spake <559>(8799) unto me, saying <559>(8800), I have seen <7200>(8804) this people <5971>, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked <6203> <7186> people <5971>:
14. Let me alone <7503>(8685), that I may destroy <8045>(8686) them, and blot out <4229>(8799) their name <8034> from under heaven <8064>: and I will make <6213>(8799) of <854> thee a nation <1471> mightier <6099> and greater <7227> than they.
15. So I turned <6437>(8799) and came down <3381>(8799) from the mount <2022>, and the mount <2022> burned <1197>(8802) with fire <784>: and the two <8147> tables <3871> of the covenant <1285> were in my two <8147> hands <3027>.
16. And I looked <7200>(8799), and, behold, ye had sinned <2398>(8804) against the LORD <3068> your God <430>, and had made <6213>(8804) you a molten <4541> calf <5695>: ye had turned aside <5493>(8804) quickly <4118> out of the way <1870> which the LORD <3068> had commanded <6680>(8765) you.
17. And I took <8610>(8799) the two <8147> tables <3871>, and cast <7993>(8686) them out of <5921> my two <8147> hands <3027>, and brake <7665>(8762) them before your eyes <5869>.
18. And I fell down <5307>(8691) before <6440> the LORD <3068>, as at the first <7223>, forty <705> days <3117> and forty <705> nights <3915>: I did neither eat <398>(8804) bread <3899>, nor drink <8354>(8804) water <4325>, because of all your sins <2403> which ye sinned <2398>(8804), in doing <6213>(8800) wickedly <7451> in the sight <5869> of the LORD <3068>, to provoke him to anger <3707>(8687).
19. For I was afraid <3025>(8804) of <6440> the anger <639> and hot displeasure <2534>, wherewith the LORD <3068> was wroth <7107>(8804) against you to destroy <8045>(8687) you. But the LORD <3068> hearkened <8085>(8799) unto me at that time <6471> also.
20. And the LORD <3068> was very <3966> angry <599>(8694) with Aaron <175> to have destroyed <8045>(8687) him: and I prayed <6419>(8691) for Aaron <175> also the same time <6256>.
21. And I took <3947>(8804) your sin <2403>, the calf <5695> which ye had made <6213>(8804), and burnt <8313>(8799) it with fire <784>, and stamped <3807>(8799) it, and ground <2912>(8800) it very small <3190>(8687), even until it was as small <1854>(8804) as dust <6083>: and I cast <7993>(8686) the dust <6083> thereof into the brook <5158> that descended out <3381>(8802) of the mount <2022>.
22. And at Taberah <8404>, and at Massah <4532>, and at Kibrothhattaavah <6914>, ye provoked the LORD <3068> to wrath <7107>(8688).
23. Likewise when the LORD <3068> sent <7971>(8800) you from Kadeshbarnea <6947>, saying <559>(8800), Go up <5927>(8798) and possess <3423>(8798) the land <776> which I have given <5414>(8804) you; then ye rebelled <4784>(8686) against the commandment <6310> of the LORD <3068> your God <430>, and ye believed <539>(8689) him not, nor hearkened <8085>(8804) to his voice <6963>.
24. Ye have been rebellious <4784>(8688) against the LORD <3068> from the day <3117> that I knew <3045>(8800) you.
25. Thus I fell down <5307>(8691) before <6440> the LORD <3068> forty <705> days <3117> and forty <705> nights <3915>, as I fell down <5307>(8694) at the first; because the LORD <3068> had said <559>(8804) he would destroy <8045>(8687) you.
26. I prayed <6419>(8691) therefore unto the LORD <3068>, and said <559>(8799), O Lord <136> GOD <3069>, destroy <7843>(8686) not thy people <5971> and thine inheritance <5159>, which thou hast redeemed <6299>(8804) through thy greatness <1433>, which thou hast brought forth <3318>(8689) out of Egypt <4714> with a mighty <2389> hand <3027>.
27. Remember <2142>(8798) thy servants <5650>, Abraham <85>, Isaac <3327>, and Jacob <3290>; look <6437>(8799) not unto the stubbornness <7190> of this people <5971>, nor to their wickedness <7562>, nor to their sin <2403>:
28. Lest the land <776> whence thou broughtest us out <3318>(8689) say <559>(8799), Because the LORD <3068> was not able <3201>(8800) to bring <935>(8687) them into the land <776> which he promised <1696>(8765) them, and because he hated <8135> them, he hath brought them out <3318>(8689) to slay <4191>(8687) them in the wilderness <4057>.
29. Yet they are thy people <5971> and thine inheritance <5159>, which thou broughtest out <3318>(8689) by thy mighty <1419> power <3581> and by thy stretched out <5186>(8803) arm <2220>.

12. I know <3045>(8804) that there is no good <2896> in them, but for a man to rejoice <8055>(8800), and to do <6213>(8800) good <2896> in his life <2416>.
13. And also that every man <120> should eat <398>(8799) and drink <8354>(8804), and enjoy <7200>(8804) the good <2896> of all his labour <5999>, it is the gift <4991> of God <430>.
14. I know <3045>(8804) that, whatsoever God <430> doeth <6213>(8799), it shall be for ever <5769>: nothing <369> can be put <3254>(8687) to it, nor any thing taken <1639>(8800) from it: and God <430> doeth <6213>(8804) it, that men should fear <3372>(8799) before <6440> him.
15. That which hath been is now <3528>; and that which is to be hath already <3528> been; and God <430> requireth <1245>(8762) that which is past <7291>(8737).
16. And moreover I saw <7200>(8804) under the sun <8121> the place <4725> of judgment <4941>, that wickedness <7562> was there; and the place <4725> of righteousness <6664>, that iniquity <7562> was there.
17. I said <559>(8804) in mine heart <3820>, God <430> shall judge <8199>(8799) the righteous <6662> and the wicked <7563>: for there is a time <6256> there for every purpose <2656> and for every work <4639>.
18. I said <559>(8804) in mine heart <3820> concerning the estate <1700> of the sons <1121> of men <120>, that God <430> might manifest <1305>(8800) them, and that they might see <7200>(8800) that they <1992> themselves are beasts <929>.
19. For that which befalleth <4745> the sons <1121> of men <120> befalleth <4745> beasts <929>; even one thing <259> befalleth <4745> them: as the one dieth <4194>, so dieth <4194> the other <2088>; yea, they have all one <259> breath <7307>; so that a man <120> hath no preeminence <4195> above a beast <929>: for all is vanity <1892>.
20. All go <1980>(8802) unto one <259> place <4725>; all are of the dust <6083>, and all turn <7725> <0> to dust <6083> again <7725>(8804).
21. Who knoweth <3045>(8802) the spirit <7307> of man <1121> <120> that goeth <5927>(8802) upward <4605>, and the spirit <7307> of the beast <929> that goeth <3381>(8802) downward <4295> to the earth <776>?
22. Wherefore I perceive <7200>(8804) that there is nothing better <2896>, than that a man <120> should rejoice <8055>(8799) in his own works <4639>; for that is his portion <2506>: for who shall bring <935>(8686) him to see <7200>(8800) what shall be after <310> him?
Notes that are not verse specific
v 11: 153 fish. The number 153 has reference to the people who are called out by God because the Gematria (value of the Hebrew or Greek letters) of "Sons of God" in Gen 6:2 is exactly 153. Notice that these people who were called out by God were mixing with the rest of the population and this was one of the contributory factors for the flood taking place. (These words "Sons of God" appear in exactly the same form in Gen 6:4; Job 1:6; Job 2:1). Again, "Joint-heirs" in Rom 8:17 has a gematria of 1071 = 153 x 7. These are Joint heirs with Christ, in other words called out by God to be His. No wonder Peter was called to be a fisher of men (Mark 1:17) so he should not be catching fish but upon Christ's foundation he should be building the ecclesia (Matt 16:18).

New Testimony Book – From Bethany To Gethsemane (Brother Peter Forbes)
The Gospel records cover the three and a half years of Jesus’ ministry, but about a third of the text focuses on just one week.
Jesus arrived in Bethany six days before the fateful Passover of his crucifixion, and from the moment he arrives there is an abrupt change of pace in the records. All four Gospel writers now provide a great amount of detail for each day’s events, and by carefully piecing together those details we see the intensity of the opposition Jesus faced, the contrasting characters of his disciples, and how in his darkest hours the Father provided comfort.
This book- 240 pages with charts and tables, a full scripture index, three appendices including a calendar of the week - provides an easy-to-see calendar of events of the final week of the Lord Jesus, and affords insights into those events. Through it we can marvel again at the determination of our Lord to do his Father’s bidding.

Peter Forbes [Mountsorrel (UK)] Comment added in 2022 Reply to Peter
20:28 My Lord and my God!
Thomas was sceptical regarding Jesus' resurrection "Unless I SEE in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe" (John 20:25). Strong words. His unbelief turned to belief when Thomas saw Jesus (no mention of now needing to touch his body) (John 20:27).
But Thomas also affirmed Jesus as God seen in the flesh: "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28), just as Jesus predicted in John 14:7 "If you [Thomas] had known me you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him". Jesus was the "radiance of the glory of God" (Hebrews 1:3) and Thomas now knew it experientially.

1. <1161> The first <3391> day of the week <4521> cometh <2064>(5736) Mary <3137> Magdalene <3094> early <4404>, when it was <5607>(5752) yet <2089> dark <4653>, unto <1519> the sepulchre <3419>, and <2532> seeth <991>(5719) the stone <3037> taken away <142>(5772) from <1537> the sepulchre <3419>.
2. Then <3767> she runneth <5143>(5719), and <2532> cometh <2064>(5736) to <4314> Simon <4613> Peter <4074>, and <2532> to <4314> the other <243> disciple <3101>, whom <3739> Jesus <2424> loved <5368>(5707), and <2532> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, They have taken away <142>(5656) the Lord <2962> out of <1537> the sepulchre <3419>, and <2532> we know <1492>(5758) not <3756> where <4226> they have laid <5087>(5656) him <846>.
3. Peter <4074> therefore <3767> went forth <1831>(5627), and <2532> that other <243> disciple <3101>, and <2532> came <2064>(5711) to <1519> the sepulchre <3419>.
4. So <1161> they ran <5143>(5707) both <1417> together <3674>: and <2532> the other <243> disciple <3101> did outrun <4390>(5627) <5032> Peter <4074>, and <2532> came <2064>(5627) first <4413> to <1519> the sepulchre <3419>.
5. And <2532> he stooping down <3879>(5660), and looking in, saw <991>(5719) the linen clothes <3608> lying <2749>(5740); yet <3305> went he <1525> <0> not <3756> in <1525>(5627).
6. Then <3767> cometh <2064>(5736) Simon <4613> Peter <4074> following <190>(5723) him <846>, and <2532> went <1525>(5627) into <1519> the sepulchre <3419>, and <2532> seeth <2334>(5719) the linen clothes <3608> lie <2749>(5740),
7. And <2532> the napkin <4676>, that was <2258>(5713) about <1909> his head <2776>, not <3756> lying <2749>(5740) with <3326> the linen clothes <3608>, but <235> wrapped together <1794>(5772) in <1519> a place <5117> by itself <1520> <5565>.
8. Then <5119> <3767> went in <1525>(5627) also <2532> that other <243> disciple <3101>, which <3588> came <2064>(5631) first <4413> to <1519> the sepulchre <3419>, and <2532> he saw <1492>(5627), and <2532> believed <4100>(5656).
9. For <1063> as yet <3764> <0> they knew <1492>(5715) not <3764> the scripture <1124>, that <3754> he must <1163>(5748) rise again <450>(5629) from <1537> the dead <3498>.
10. Then <3767> the disciples <3101> went away <565>(5627) again <3825> unto <4314> their own home <1438>.
11. But <1161> Mary <3137> stood <2476>(5715) without <1854> at <4314> the sepulchre <3419> weeping <2799>(5723): and <3767> as <5613> she wept <2799>(5707), she stooped down <3879>(5656), and looked into <1519> the sepulchre <3419>,
12. And <2532> seeth <2334>(5719) two <1417> angels <32> in <1722> white <3022> sitting <2516>(5740), the one <1520> at <4314> the head <2776>, and <2532> the other <1520> at <4314> the feet <4228>, where <3699> the body <4983> of Jesus <2424> had lain <2749>(5711).
13. And <2532> they <1565> say <3004>(5719) unto her <846>, Woman <1135>, why <5101> weepest thou <2799>(5719)? She saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Because <3754> they have taken away <142>(5656) my <3450> Lord <2962>, and <2532> I know <1492>(5758) not <3756> where <4226> they have laid <5087>(5656) him <846>.
14. And <2532> when she had <2036> <0> thus <5023> said <2036>(5631), she turned <4762>(5648) herself <1519> back <3694>, and <2532> saw <2334>(5719) Jesus <2424> standing <2476>(5761), and <2532> knew <1492>(5715) not <3756> that <3754> it was <2076>(5748) Jesus <2424>.
15. Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto her <846>, Woman <1135>, why <5101> weepest thou <2799>(5719)? whom <5101> seekest thou <2212>(5719)? She <1565>, supposing <1380>(5723) <3754> him to be <2076>(5748) the gardener <2780>, saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Sir <2962>, if <1487> thou <4771> have borne <941> <0> him <846> hence <941>(5656), tell <2036>(5628) me <3427> where <4226> thou hast laid <5087>(5656) him <846>, and I <2504> will take <142> <0> him <846> away <142>(5692).
16. Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto her <846>, Mary <3137>. She <1565> turned <4762>(5651) herself, and saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Rabboni <4462>; which <3739> is to say <3004>(5743), Master <1320>.
17. Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto her <846>, Touch <680>(5732) me <3450> not <3361>; for <1063> I am <305> <0> not yet <3768> ascended <305>(5758) to <4314> my <3450> Father <3962>: but <1161> go <4198>(5737) to <4314> my <3450> brethren <80>, and <2532> say <2036>(5628) unto them <846>, I ascend <305>(5719) unto <4314> my <3450> Father <3962>, and <2532> your <5216> Father <3962>; and <2532> to my <3450> God <2316>, and <2532> your <5216> God <2316>.
18. Mary <3137> Magdalene <3094> came <2064>(5736) and told <518>(5723) the disciples <3101> that <3754> she had seen <3708>(5758) the Lord <2962>, and <2532> that he had spoken <2036>(5627) these things <5023> unto her <846>.
19. Then <3767> the same <1565> day <2250> at evening <3798>, being <5607>(5752) the first <3391> day of the week <4521>, when <2532> the doors <2374> were shut <2808>(5772) where <3699> the disciples <3101> were <2258>(5713) assembled <4863>(5772) for <1223> fear <5401> of the Jews <2453>, came <2064>(5627) Jesus <2424> and <2532> stood <2476>(5627) in <1519> the midst <3319>, and <2532> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Peace <1515> be unto you <5213>.
20. And <2532> when he had <2036> <0> so <5124> said <2036>(5631), he shewed <1166>(5656) unto them <846> his hands <5495> and <2532> his <848> side <4125>. Then <3767> were <5463> <0> the disciples <3101> glad <5463>(5644), when they saw <1492>(5631) the Lord <2962>.
21. Then <3767> said <2036>(5627) Jesus <2424> to them <846> again <3825>, Peace <1515> be unto you <5213>: as <2531> my Father <3962> hath sent <649>(5758) me <3165>, even so <2504> <0> send <3992>(5719) I <2504> you <5209>.
22. And <2532> when he had said <2036>(5631) this <5124>, he breathed on <1720>(5656) them, and <2532> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Receive ye <2983>(5628) the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>:
23. Whose <5100> soever <302> sins <266> ye remit <863>(5632), they are remitted <863>(5743) unto them <846>; and whose <5100> soever <302> sins ye retain <2902>(5725), they are retained <2902>(5769).
24. But <1161> Thomas <2381>, one <1520> of <1537> the twelve <1427>, called <3004>(5746) Didymus <1324>, was <2258>(5713) not <3756> with <3326> them <846> when <3753> Jesus <2424> came <2064>(5627).
25. The other <243> disciples <3101> therefore <3767> said <3004>(5707) unto him <846>, We have seen <3708>(5758) the Lord <2962>. But <1161> he said <2036>(5627) unto them <846>, Except <3362> I shall see <1492>(5632) in <1722> his <846> hands <5495> the print <5179> of the nails <2247>, and <2532> put <906>(5632) my <3450> finger <1147> into <1519> the print <5179> of the nails <2247>, and <2532> thrust <906>(5632) my <3450> hand <5495> into <1519> his <846> side <4125>, I will <4100> <0> not <3364> believe <4100>(5692)(5661).
26. And <2532> after <3326> eight <3638> days <2250> again <3825> his <846> disciples <3101> were <2258>(5713) within <2080>, and <2532> Thomas <2381> with <3326> them <846>: then came <2064>(5736) Jesus <2424>, the doors <2374> being shut <2808>(5772), and <2532> stood <2476>(5627) in <1519> the midst <3319>, and <2532> said <2036>(5627), Peace <1515> be unto you <5213>.
27. Then <1534> saith he <3004>(5719) to Thomas <2381>, Reach <5342>(5720) hither <5602> thy <4675> finger <1147>, and <2532> behold <1492>(5657) my <3450> hands <5495>; and <2532> reach hither <5342>(5720) thy <4675> hand <5495>, and <2532> thrust <906>(5628) it into <1519> my <3450> side <4125>: and <2532> be <1096>(5737) not <3361> faithless <571>, but <235> believing <4103>.
28. And <2532> Thomas <2381> answered <611>(5662) and <2532> said <2036>(5627) unto him <846>, My <3450> Lord <2962> and <2532> my <3450> God <2316>.
29. Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Thomas <2381>, because <3754> thou hast seen <3708>(5758) me <3165>, thou hast believed <4100>(5758): blessed <3107> are they that have not <3361> seen <1492>(5631), and <2532> yet have believed <4100>(5660).
30. And <2532> many <4183> other <243> signs <4592> truly <3303> <3767> did <4160>(5656) Jesus <2424> in the presence <1799> of his <848> disciples <3101>, which <3739> are <2076>(5748) not <3756> written <1125>(5772) in <1722> this <5129> book <975>:
31. But <1161> these <5023> are written <1125>(5769), that <2443> ye might believe <4100>(5661) that <3754> Jesus <2424> is <2076>(5748) the Christ <5547>, the Son <5207> of God <2316>; and <2532> that <2443> believing <4100>(5723) ye might have <2192>(5725) life <2222> through <1722> his <846> name <3686>.
1. After <3326> these things <5023> Jesus <2424> shewed <5319>(5656) himself <1438> again <3825> to the disciples <3101> at <1909> the sea <2281> of Tiberias <5085>; and <1161> on this wise <3779> shewed <5319>(5656) he himself.
2. There were <2258>(5713) together <3674> Simon <4613> Peter <4074>, and <2532> Thomas <2381> called <3004>(5746) Didymus <1324>, and <2532> Nathanael <3482> of <575> Cana <2580> in Galilee <1056>, and <2532> the sons <3588> of Zebedee <2199>, and <2532> two <1417> other <243> of <1537> his <846> disciples <3101>.
3. Simon <4613> Peter <4074> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, I go <5217>(5719) a fishing <232>(5721). They say <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, We <2249> also <2532> go <2064>(5736) with <4862> thee <4671>. They went forth <1831>(5627), and <2532> entered <305>(5627) into <1519> a ship <4143> immediately <2117>; and <2532> that <1722> <1565> night <3571> they caught <4084>(5656) nothing <3762>.
4. But <1161> when the morning <4405> was <1096> <0> now <2235> come <1096>(5637), Jesus <2424> stood <2476>(5627) on <1519> the shore <123>: but <3305> the disciples <3101> knew <1492>(5715) not <3756> that <3754> it was <2076>(5748) Jesus <2424>.
5. Then <3767> Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Children <3813>, have ye <2192>(5719) any <3387> meat <4371>? They answered <611>(5662) him <846>, No <3756>.
6. And <1161> he said <2036>(5627) unto them <846>, Cast <906>(5628) the net <1350> on <1519> the right <1188> side <3313> of the ship <4143>, and <2532> ye shall find <2147>(5692). They cast <906>(5627) therefore <3767>, and <2532> now <2089> they were <2480> <0> not <3765> able <2480>(5656) to draw <1670>(5658) it <846> for <575> the multitude <4128> of fishes <2486>.
7. Therefore <3767> that <1565> disciple <3101> whom <3739> Jesus <2424> loved <25>(5707) saith <3004>(5719) unto Peter <4074>, It is <2076>(5748) the Lord <2962>. Now <3767> when Simon <4613> Peter <4074> heard <191>(5660) that <3754> it was <2076>(5748) the Lord <2962>, he girt <1241>(5668) his fisher's coat <1903> unto him, (for <1063> he was <2258>(5713) naked <1131>,) and <2532> did cast <906>(5627) himself <1438> into <1519> the sea <2281>.
8. And <1161> the other <243> disciples <3101> came <2064>(5627) in a little ship <4142>; (for <1063> they were <2258>(5713) not <3756> far <3112> from <575> land <1093>, but <235> as it were <5613> <575> two hundred <1250> cubits <4083>,) dragging <4951>(5723) the net <1350> with fishes <2486>.
9. As soon <5613> then <3767> as they were come <576>(5627) to <1519> land <1093>, they saw <991>(5719) a fire of coals <439> there, and <2532> fish <3795> laid <2749>(5740) thereon <1945>(5740), and <2532> bread <740>.
10. Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Bring <5342>(5657) of <575> the fish <3795> which <3739> ye have <4084> <0> now <3568> caught <4084>(5656).
11. Simon <4613> Peter <4074> went up <305>(5627), and <2532> drew <1670>(5656) the net <1350> to <1909> land <1093> full <3324> of great <3173> fishes <2486>, an hundred <1540> and fifty <4004> and three <5140>: and <2532> for all there were so many <5118>, yet was <5607>(5752) not <3756> the net <1350> broken <4977>(5681).
12. Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Come <1205>(5773) and dine <709>(5657). And <1161> none <3762> of the disciples <3101> durst <5111>(5707) ask <1833>(5658) him <846>, Who <5101> art <1488>(5748) thou <4771>? knowing <1492>(5761) that <3754> it was <2076>(5748) the Lord <2962>.
13. Jesus <2424> then <3767> cometh <2064>(5736), and <2532> taketh <2983>(5719) bread <740>, and <2532> giveth <1325>(5719) them <846>, and <2532> fish <3795> likewise <3668>.
14. This <5124> is <5319> <0> now <2235> the third time <5154> that Jesus <2424> shewed himself <5319>(5681) to his <848> disciples <3101>, after that he was risen <1453>(5685) from <1537> the dead <3498>.
15. So <3767> when <3753> they had dined <709>(5656), Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) to Simon <4613> Peter <4074>, Simon <4613>, son of Jonas <2495>, lovest thou <25>(5719) me <3165> more than <4119> these <5130>? He saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Yea <3483>, Lord <2962>; thou <4771> knowest <1492>(5758) that <3754> I love <5368>(5719) thee <4571>. He saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Feed <1006>(5720) my <3450> lambs <721>.
16. He saith <3004>(5719) to him <846> again <3825> the second time <1208>, Simon <4613>, son of Jonas <2495>, lovest thou <25>(5719) me <3165>? He saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Yea <3483>, Lord <2962>; thou <4771> knowest <1492>(5758) that <3754> I love <5368>(5719) thee <4571>. He saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Feed <4165>(5720) my <3450> sheep <4263>.
17. He saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846> the third <5154> time, Simon <4613>, son of Jonas <2495>, lovest <5368>(5719) thou me <3165>? Peter <4074> was grieved <3076>(5681) because <3754> he said <2036>(5627) unto him <846> the third <5154> time, Lovest <5368>(5719) thou me <3165>? And <2532> he said <2036>(5627) unto him <846>, Lord <2962>, thou <4771> knowest <1492>(5758) all things <3956>; thou <4771> knowest <1097>(5719) that <3754> I love <5368>(5719) thee <4571>. Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Feed <1006>(5720) my <3450> sheep <4263>.
18. Verily <281>, verily <281>, I say <3004>(5719) unto thee <4671>, When <3753> thou wast <2258>(5713) young <3501>, thou girdedst <2224>(5707) thyself <4572>, and <2532> walkedst <4043>(5707) whither <3699> thou wouldest <2309>(5707): but <1161> when <3752> thou shalt be old <1095>(5661), thou shalt stretch forth <1614>(5692) thy <4675> hands <5495>, and <2532> another <243> shall gird <2224>(5692) thee <4571>, and <2532> carry <5342>(5692) thee whither <3699> thou wouldest <2309>(5719) not <3756>.
19. <1161> This <5124> spake he <2036>(5627), signifying <4591>(5723) by what <4169> death <2288> he should glorify <1392>(5692) God <2316>. And <2532> when he had spoken <2036>(5631) this <5124>, he saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Follow <190>(5720) me <3427>.
20. Then <1161> Peter <4074>, turning about <1994>(5651), seeth <991>(5719) the disciple <3101> whom <3739> Jesus <2424> loved <25>(5707) following <190>(5723); which <3739> also <2532> leaned <377>(5627) on <1909> his <846> breast <4738> at <1722> supper <1173>, and <2532> said <2036>(5627), Lord <2962>, which <5101> is he <2076>(5748) that betrayeth <3860>(5723) thee <4571>?
21. Peter <4074> seeing <1492>(5631) him <5126> saith <3004>(5719) to Jesus <2424>, Lord <2962>, and <1161> what <5101> shall this man <3778> do?
22. Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, If <1437> I will <2309>(5725) that he tarry <3306>(5721) till <2193> I come <2064>(5736), what <5101> is that to <4314> thee <4571>? follow <190>(5720) thou <4771> me <3427>.
23. Then <3767> went <1831> <0> this <3778> saying <3056> abroad <1831>(5627) among <1519> the brethren <80>, that <3754> that <1565> disciple <3101> should <599> <0> not <3756> die <599>(5719): yet <2532> Jesus <2424> said <2036>(5627) not <3756> unto him <846>, <3754> He shall <599> <0> not <3756> die <599>(5719); but <235>, If <1437> I will <2309>(5725) that he <846> tarry <3306>(5721) till <2193> I come <2064>(5736), what <5101> is that to <4314> thee <4571>?
24. This <3778> is <2076>(5748) the disciple <3101> which <3588> testifieth <3140>(5723) of <4012> these things <5130>, and <2532> wrote <1125>(5660) these things <5023>: and <2532> we know <1492>(5758) that <3754> his <846> testimony <3141> is <2076>(5748) true <227>.
25. And <1161> there are <2076>(5748) also <2532> many <4183> other things <243> which <3745> Jesus <2424> did <4160>(5656), the which <3748>, if <1437> they should be written <1125>(5747) every <2596> one <1520>, I suppose <3633>(5736) that even <3761> <0> the world <2889> itself <846> could not <3761> contain <5562>(5658) the books <975> that should be written <1125>(5746). Amen <281>.
