Whilst 8:1 tells us what Samuel did when he was old we should realise that we have now moved back in time to consider events that happened earlier in the life of Samuel.
Peter Forbes [Mountsorrel (UK)] Comment added in 2002 Reply to Peter
Even though Samuel was an old man, he kept on faithfully performing his duties. The office he had been appointed to before his conception was a lifelong one. Interestingly, just as had always been the case, God's plan was not to choose Samuel's sons as his successors. This trend had been well vocalised by an earlier Judge, Gideon, and demonstrated in the untimely death of his sons (Judg 8:23, 9:2,5). Samuel should have known this and not made judges of his own sons. God does not care for genealogies or family dynasties.
But God does work with spiritual children. Samuel's spiritual child was David, who even at this time was meditating on the word of God whilst tending his fathers flocks. From now on in the book of Samuel we should notice Samuel's growing disdain of the ways of Saul, and growing delight in the ways of David. Just look at the character of the man Saul: In v6 his servant knew more about Samuel than he did. In v7 he though one needed to pay to enquire of the Lord. In vs6-10 he needed to be led by his servant. In 12 and 18 he didn't listen properly to directions. In v21 he's a fibber (cp. 9:1-2). In 10:6,9 God needed to change his heart before he was any use. In 10:11-12 the people who knew him were flabbergasted that Saul, of all people, might be a prophet! In 10:11-12 he didn't want to be king, and behaved himself like a coward.
God chose such a man simply because He desired to illustrate to Israel the lesson that Samuel had vocalised in 8:9-18, and to give them temporary relief from the Philistines (9:16). The new judge which God had been nurturing was not the physical son of Samuel, nor the person of choice by the people, but a spiritual son who would be brought up on the word of the Lord through Samuel.
Rob de Jongh [Mountsorrel (UK)] Comment added in 2005 Reply to Rob
If the asses of Kish had not been lost, Saul would have never found himself meeting with Samuel. How often do we during our every day walk of life consider that it is the hand of our Heavenly Father that has brought us to a certain place, or has crossed our paths with one who is searching for an understanding of His Word. It was not by chance that Saul and Samuel met. It was not by chance that Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch met; Philip was directed to go to the chariot of the eunuch by the Holy Spirit. The lesson for us is of course that we must be ready and willing to allow ourselves to be guided by the Hand of God.
John Wilson [Toronto West (Can)] Comment added in 2007 Reply to John
At this point, Saul was a shy self-effacing individual. And yet, it was he that Yahweh would set up as the first (human) king of Israel. It does not depend upon the person's desire or aptitude to be a leader, the choice depends upon Yahweh's will: ...he removeth kings, and setteth up kings... (Dan 2:21); ...the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will (Dan 4:25).

SAUL'S DOWNFALL
("wherefore then speakest thou so to me?" v.21)
Here was the root of Saul's problem - his insecurity. Saul waffled between his own feeling of inadequacy and what he needed to do. Saul's problem was that he lived for himself - in his own little world. He said his family was "the least" and "the smallest" in the tribe of Israel v.21. Yet his father was a "mighty man of power" (v.1). The problem with Saul was that he didn't want to face the responsibilities that God had given him. In 15:21 Saul allowed the people to keep some of the spoil of the war booty.
It's strange that even though Saul was called by God and had a mission he was supposed to carry out, yet he struggled with his own inadequacies of jealousy - arrogance - impulsiveness and deceit. He was not wholeheartedly committed to God and that was the root of his problem. Because Saul would not let God's love rest in his heart - he never became the man God wanted him to be.
It's strange that even though Saul was called by God and had a mission he was

1. Now there was a man <376> of Benjamin <1144>, whose name <8034> was Kish <7027>, the son <1121> of Abiel <22>, the son <1121> of Zeror <6872>, the son <1121> of Bechorath <1064>, the son <1121> of Aphiah <647>, a Benjamite <1145>, a mighty <1368> man <376> of power <2428>.
2. And he had a son <1121>, whose name <8034> was Saul <7586>, a choice young man <970>, and a goodly <2896>: and there was not among the children <1121> of Israel <3478> a goodlier <2896> person <376> than he: from his shoulders <7926> and upward <4605> he was higher <1364> than any of the people <5971>.
3. And the asses <860> of Kish <7027> Saul's <7586> father <1> were lost <6>(8799). And Kish <7027> said <559>(8799) to Saul <7586> his son <1121>, Take <3947>(8798) now one <259> of the servants <5288> with thee, and arise <6965>(8798), go <3212>(8798) seek <1245>(8761) the asses <860>.
4. And he passed through <5674>(8799) mount <2022> Ephraim <669>, and passed through <5674>(8799) the land <776> of Shalisha <8031>, but they found <4672>(8804) them not: then they passed through <5674>(8799) the land <776> of Shalim <8171>, and there they were not: and he passed through <5674>(8799) the land <776> of the Benjamites <1145>, but they found <4672>(8804) them not.
5. And when they were come <935>(8804) to the land <776> of Zuph <6689>, Saul <7586> said <559>(8804) to his servant <5288> that was with him, Come <3212>(8798), and let us return <7725>(8799); lest my father <1> leave <2308>(8799) caring for the asses <860>, and take thought <1672>(8804) for us.
6. And he said <559>(8799) unto him, Behold now, there is in this city <5892> a man <376> of God <430>, and he is an honourable <3513>(8737) man <376>; all that he saith <1696>(8762) cometh <935>(8799) surely to pass <935>(8800): now let us go <3212>(8799) thither; peradventure he can shew <5046>(8686) us our way <1870> that we should go <1980>(8804).
7. Then said <559>(8799) Saul <7586> to his servant <5288>, But, behold, if we go <3212>(8799), what shall we bring <935>(8686) the man <376>? for the bread <3899> is spent <235>(8804) in our vessels <3627>, and there is not a present <8670> to bring <935>(8687) to the man <376> of God <430>: what have we?
8. And the servant <5288> answered <6030>(8800) Saul <7586> again <3254>(8686), and said <559>(8799), Behold, I have <4672>(8738) here at hand <3027> the fourth part <7253> of a shekel <8255> of silver <3701>: that will I give <5414>(8804) to the man <376> of God <430>, to tell <5046>(8689) us our way <1870>.
9. (Beforetime <6440> in Israel <3478>, when a man <376> went <3212>(8800) to enquire <1875>(8800) of God <430>, thus he spake <559>(8804), Come <3212>(8798), and let us go <3212>(8799) to the seer <7200>(8802): for he that is now <3117> called a Prophet <5030> was beforetime <6440> called <7121>(8735) a Seer <7200>(8802).)
10. Then said <1697> Saul <7586> to his servant <5288>, Well <2896> said <559>(8799); come <3212>(8798), let us go <3212>(8799). So they went <3212>(8799) unto the city <5892> where the man <376> of God <430> was.
11. And as they went up <5927>(8802) the hill <4608> to the city <5892>, they found <4672>(8804) young maidens <5291> going out <3318>(8802) to draw <7579>(8800) water <4325>, and said <559>(8799) unto them, Is <3426> the seer <7200>(8802) here?
12. And they answered <6030>(8799) them, and said <559>(8799), He is <3426>; behold, he is before <6440> you: make haste <4116>(8761) now, for he came <935>(8804) to day <3117> to the city <5892>; for there is a sacrifice <2077> of the people <5971> to day <3117> in the high place <1116>:
13. As soon as ye be come <935>(8800) into the city <5892>, ye shall straightway <3651> find <4672>(8799) him, before he go up <5927>(8799) to the high place <1116> to eat <398>(8800): for the people <5971> will not eat <398>(8799) until he come <935>(8800), because he doth bless <1288>(8762) the sacrifice <2077>; and afterwards <310> <3651> they eat <398>(8799) that be bidden <7121>(8803). Now therefore get you up <5927>(8798); for about this time <3117> ye shall find <4672>(8799) him.
14. And they went up <5927>(8799) into <8432> the city <5892>: and when they were come <935>(8802) into the city <5892>, behold, Samuel <8050> came out <3318>(8802) against <7125>(8800) them, for to go up <5927>(8800) to the high place <1116>.
15. Now the LORD <3068> had told <1540>(8804) Samuel <8050> in his ear <241> a <259> day <3117> before <6440> Saul <7586> came <935>(8800), saying <559>(8800),
16. To morrow <4279> about this time <6256> I will send <7971>(8799) thee a man <376> out of the land <776> of Benjamin <1144>, and thou shalt anoint <4886>(8804) him to be captain <5057> over my people <5971> Israel <3478>, that he may save <3467>(8689) my people <5971> out of the hand <3027> of the Philistines <6430>: for I have looked <7200>(8804) upon my people <5971>, because their cry <6818> is come <935>(8804) unto me.
17. And when Samuel <8050> saw <7200>(8804) Saul <7586>, the LORD <3068> said <6030>(8804) unto him, Behold the man <376> whom I spake <559>(8804) to thee of! this same shall reign <6113>(8799) over my people <5971>.
18. Then Saul <7586> drew near <5066>(8799) to Samuel <8050> in <8432> the gate <8179>, and said <559>(8799), Tell <5046>(8685) me, I pray thee, where <335> the seer's <7200>(8802) house <1004> is.
19. And Samuel <8050> answered <6030>(8799) Saul <7586>, and said <559>(8799), I am the seer <7200>(8802): go up <5927>(8798) before <6440> me unto the high place <1116>; for ye shall eat <398>(8804) with me to day <3117>, and to morrow <1242> I will let thee go <7971>(8765), and will tell <5046>(8686) thee all that is in thine heart <3824>.
20. And as for thine asses <860> that were lost <6>(8802) three <7969> days <3117> ago <3117>, set <7760>(8799) not thy mind <3820> on them; for they are found <4672>(8738). And on whom is all the desire <2532> of Israel <3478>? Is it not on thee, and on all thy father's <1> house <1004>?
21. And Saul <7586> answered <6030>(8799) and said <559>(8799), Am not I a Benjamite <1145>, of the smallest <6996> of the tribes <7626> of Israel <3478>? and my family <4940> the least <6810> of all the families <4940> of the tribe <7626> of Benjamin <1144>? wherefore then speakest <1696>(8765) thou so <1697> to me?
22. And Samuel <8050> took <3947>(8799) Saul <7586> and his servant <5288>, and brought <935>(8686) them into the parlour <3957>, and made them sit <5414>(8799) in the chiefest <7218> place <4725> among them that were bidden <7121>(8803), which were about thirty <7970> persons <376>.
23. And Samuel <8050> said <559>(8799) unto the cook <2876>, Bring <5414>(8798) the portion <4490> which I gave <5414>(8804) thee, of which I said <559>(8804) unto thee, Set <7760>(8798) it by thee.
24. And the cook <2876> took up <7311>(8686) the shoulder <7785>, and that which was upon it, and set <7760>(8799) it before <6440> Saul <7586>. And Samuel said <559>(8799), Behold that which is left <7604>(8737)! set <7760>(8798) it before <6440> thee, and eat <398>(8798): for unto this time <4150> hath it been kept <8104>(8803) for thee since I said <559>(8800), I have invited <7121>(8804) the people <5971>. So Saul <7586> did eat <398>(8799) with Samuel <8050> that day <3117>.
25. And when they were come down <3381>(8799) from the high place <1116> into the city <5892>, Samuel communed <1696>(8762) with Saul <7586> upon the top of the house <1406>.
26. And they arose early <7925>(8686): and it came to pass about the spring <5927>(8800) of the day <7837>, that Samuel <8050> called <7121>(8799) Saul <7586> to the top of the house <1406>, saying <559>(8800), Up <6965>(8798), that I may send thee away <7971>(8762). And Saul <7586> arose <6965>(8799), and they went out <3318>(8799) both <8147> of them, he and Samuel <8050>, abroad <2351>.
27. And as they were going down <3381>(8802) to the end <7097> of the city <5892>, Samuel <8050> said <559>(8804) to Saul <7586>, Bid <559>(8798) the servant <5288> pass on <5674>(8799) before <6440> us, (and he passed on <5674>(8798),) but stand <5975>(8798) thou still a while <3117>, that I may shew <8085>(8686) thee the word <1697> of God <430>.

"HE WAS PIERCED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS"
Why was it that such a perfect man had to suffer and die when he had done no wrong? It was for us that he did it. In John 3 v 16 we read that "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
God, in his love for us, who are dying because of our sins, gave us Jesus as the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Jesus overcame sin and did not deserve all he got, but he took our punishment to condemn sin and to revoke the curse of sin and death we have inherited from Adam .
If you or I could live a sinless life Jesus would not have had to die He died for us - for you and me. "He took up our infirmities," "He carried our sorrows," "He was pierced for our transgressions," "He was crushed for our iniquities," "The punishment that brought us peace was upon him," "By his wounds we are healed," "We have gone astray," "The LORD laid on him the iniquity of us all," "He bore the sin of many."
The man who did so much for us deserves all we can give. What do you give?

This prophecy not only announces the coming Messiah to Israel, but, also, the fact that Israel would reject Him. I wonder how that was understood by the Israelites at the time of Isaiah.

The big question that this raises is: how did Hezekiah's suffering save the people from their iniquities? When we meditate on that, we will be in a much better position to understand how Jesus's suffering saves us.

Here is a chiasm for Isa 52 v 13 going into Isa 53. The chiasm has been altered after considering the centre of Bro Mark Allfree's chiasm on chiasmusxchange.com
A.(13) Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. (14) As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: (15) So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.
B.(1) Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? (2) For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. (3) He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
C.(4) Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
D.(5) But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (6) All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. (7) He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth:
E. he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter,
D'.and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
C'.(8) He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. (9) And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
B'.(10) Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
A'.(11) He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. (12) Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Yet it pleased <2654>(8804) the LORD <3068> to bruise <1792>(8763) him; he hath put him to grief <2470>(8689): when thou shalt make <7760>(8799) his soul <5315> an offering for sin <817>, he shall see <7200>(8799) his seed <2233>, he shall prolong <748>(8686) his days <3117>, and the pleasure <2656> of the LORD <3068> shall prosper <6743>(8799) in his hand <3027>.
11. He shall see <7200>(8799) of the travail <5999> of his soul <5315>, and shall be satisfied <7646>(8799): by his knowledge <1847> shall my righteous <6662> servant <5650> justify <6663>(8686) many <7227>; for he shall bear <5445>(8799) their iniquities <5771>.
12. Therefore will I divide <2505>(8762) him a portion with the great <7227>, and he shall divide <2505>(8762) the spoil <7998> with the strong <6099>; because he hath poured out <6168>(8689) his soul <5315> unto death <4194>: and he was numbered <4487>(8738) with the transgressors <6586>(8802); and he bare <5375>(8804) the sin <2399> of many <7227>, and made intercession <6293>(8686) for the transgressors <6586>(8802).

1. And <2532> I saw <1492>(5627) another <243> sign <4592> in <1722> heaven <3772>, great <3173> and <2532> marvellous <2298>, seven <2033> angels <32> having <2192>(5723) the seven <2033> last <2078> plagues <4127>; for <3754> in <1722> them <846> is filled up <5055>(5681) the wrath <2372> of God <2316>.
2. And <2532> I saw <1492>(5627) as it were <5613> a sea <2281> of glass <5193> mingled <3396>(5772) with fire <4442>: and <2532> them that had gotten the victory <3528>(5723) over <1537> the beast <2342>, and <2532> over <1537> his <846> image <1504>, and <2532> over <1537> his <846> mark <5480>, and over <1537> the number <706> of his <846> name <3686>, stand <2476>(5761) on <1909> the sea <2281> of glass <5193>, having <2192>(5723) the harps <2788> of God <2316>.
3. And <2532> they sing <103>(5719) the song <5603> of Moses <3475> the servant <1401> of God <2316>, and <2532> the song <5603> of the Lamb <721>, saying <3004>(5723), Great <3173> and <2532> marvellous <2298> are thy <4675> works <2041>, Lord <2962> God <2316> Almighty <3841>; just <1342> and <2532> true <228> are thy <4675> ways <3598>, thou King <935> of saints <40>.
4. Who <5101> shall <5399> <0> not <3364> fear <5399>(5680) thee <4571>, O Lord <2962>, and <2532> glorify <1392>(5661) thy <4675> name <3686>? for <3754> thou only <3441> art holy <3741>: for <3754> all <3956> nations <1484> shall come <2240>(5692) and <2532> worship <4352>(5692) before <1799> thee <4675>; for <3754> thy <4675> judgments <1345> are made manifest <5319>(5681).
5. And <2532> after <3326> that <5023> I looked <1492>(5627), and <2532>, behold <2400>(5628), the temple <3485> of the tabernacle <4633> of the testimony <3142> in <1722> heaven <3772> was opened <455>(5648):
6. And <2532> the seven <2033> angels <32> came <1831>(5627) out of <1537> the temple <3485>, having <2192>(5723) the seven <2033> plagues <4127>, clothed <1746>(5765) in pure <2513> and <2532> white <2986> linen <3043>, and <2532> having their breasts <4738> girded <4024>(5772) with <4012> golden <5552> girdles <2223>.
7. And <2532> one <1520> of <1537> the four <5064> beasts <2226> gave <1325>(5656) unto the seven <2033> angels <32> seven <2033> golden <5552> vials <5357> full <1073>(5723) of the wrath <2372> of God <2316>, who <3588> liveth <2198>(5723) for <1519> ever <165> and ever <165>.
8. And <2532> the temple <3485> was filled <1072>(5681) with smoke <2586> from <1537> the glory <1391> of God <2316>, and <2532> from <1537> his <846> power <1411>; and <2532> no man <3762> was able <1410>(5711) to enter <1525>(5629) into <1519> the temple <3485>, till <891> the seven <2033> plagues <4127> of the seven <2033> angels <32> were fulfilled <5055>(5686).
1. And <2532> I heard <191>(5656) a great <3173> voice <5456> out of <1537> the temple <3485> saying <3004>(5723) to the seven <2033> angels <32>, Go your ways <5217>(5720), and <2532> pour out <1632>(5657) the vials <5357> of the wrath <2372> of God <2316> upon <1519> the earth <1093>.
2. And <2532> the first <4413> went <565>(5627), and <2532> poured out <1632>(5656) his <848> vial <5357> upon <1909> the earth <1093>; and <2532> there fell <1096>(5633) a noisome <2556> and <2532> grievous <4190> sore <1668> upon <1519> the men <444> which <3588> had <2192>(5723) the mark <5480> of the beast <2342>, and <2532> upon them which worshipped <4352>(5723) his <846> image <1504>.
3. And <2532> the second <1208> angel <32> poured out <1632>(5656) his <848> vial <5357> upon <1519> the sea <2281>; and <2532> it became <1096>(5633) as <5613> the blood <129> of a dead <3498> man: and <2532> every <3956> living <2198>(5723) soul <5590> died <599>(5627) in <1722> the sea <2281>.
4. And <2532> the third <5154> angel <32> poured out <1632>(5656) his <848> vial <5357> upon <1519> the rivers <4215> and <2532> <1519> fountains <4077> of waters <5204>; and <2532> they became <1096>(5633) blood <129>.
5. And <2532> I heard <191>(5656) the angel <32> of the waters <5204> say <3004>(5723), Thou art <1488>(5748) righteous <1342>, O Lord <2962>, which <3588> art <3801>, and <2532> wast <2258>(5713)(5625) <3801>, and <2532> shalt be <3741>(5706)(5625) <3801>, because <3754> thou hast judged <2919>(5656) thus <5023>.
6. For <3754> they have shed <1632>(5656) the blood <129> of saints <40> and <2532> prophets <4396>, and <2532> thou hast given <1325>(5656) them <846> blood <129> to drink <4095>(5629); for <1063> they are <1526>(5748) worthy <514>.
7. And <2532> I heard <191>(5656) another <243> out of <1537> the altar <2379> say <3004>(5723), Even so <3483>, Lord <2962> God <2316> Almighty <3841>, true <228> and <2532> righteous <1342> are thy <4675> judgments <2920>.
8. And <2532> the fourth <5067> angel <32> poured out <1632>(5656) his <848> vial <5357> upon <1909> the sun <2246>; and <2532> power was given <1325>(5681) unto him <846> to scorch <2739>(5658) men <444> with <1722> fire <4442>.
9. And <2532> men <444> were scorched <2739>(5681) with great <3173> heat <2738>, and <2532> blasphemed <987>(5656) the name <3686> of God <2316>, which <3588> hath <2192>(5723) power <1849> over <1909> these <5025> plagues <4127>: and <2532> they repented <3340>(5656) not <3756> to give <1325>(5629) him <846> glory <1391>.
10. And <2532> the fifth <3991> angel <32> poured out <1632>(5656) his <848> vial <5357> upon <1909> the seat <2362> of the beast <2342>; and <2532> his <846> kingdom <932> was <1096>(5633) full of darkness <4656>(5772); and <2532> they gnawed <3145>(5711) their <848> tongues <1100> for <1537> pain <4192>,
11. And <2532> blasphemed <987>(5656) the God <2316> of heaven <3772> because of <1537> their <848> pains <4192> and <2532> <1537> their <848> sores <1668>, and <2532> repented <3340>(5656) not <3756> of <1537> their <848> deeds <2041>.
12. And <2532> the sixth <1623> angel <32> poured out <1632>(5656) his <848> vial <5357> upon <1909> the great <3173> river <4215> Euphrates <2166>; and <2532> the water <5204> thereof <846> was dried up <3583>(5681), that <2443> the way <3598> of the kings <935> of <575> the east <395> <2246> might be prepared <2090>(5686).
13. And <2532> I saw <1492>(5627) three <5140> unclean <169> spirits <4151> like <3664> frogs <944> come out of <1537> the mouth <4750> of the dragon <1404>, and <2532> out of <1537> the mouth <4750> of the beast <2342>, and <2532> out of <1537> the mouth <4750> of the false prophet <5578>.
14. For <1063> they are <1526>(5748) the spirits <4151> of devils <1142>, working <4160>(5723) miracles <4592>, which go forth <1607>(5738)(5625) <1607>(5736) unto <1909> the kings <935> of the earth <1093> and <2532> of the whole <3650> world <3625>, to gather <4863>(5629) them <846> to <1519> the battle <4171> of that <1565> great <3173> day <2250> of God <2316> Almighty <3841>.
15. Behold <2400>(5628), I come <2064>(5736) as <5613> a thief <2812>. Blessed <3107> is he that watcheth <1127>(5723), and <2532> keepeth <5083>(5723) his <848> garments <2440>, lest <3363> he walk <4043>(5725) naked <1131>, and <2532> they see <991>(5725) his <846> shame <808>.
16. And <2532> he gathered <4863> <0> them <846> together <4863>(5627) into <1519> a place <5117> called <2564>(5746) in the Hebrew tongue <1447> Armageddon <717>.
17. And <2532> the seventh <1442> angel <32> poured out <1632>(5656) his <848> vial <5357> into <1519> the air <109>; and <2532> there came <1831>(5627) a great <3173> voice <5456> out of <575> the temple <3485> of heaven <3772>, from <575> the throne <2362>, saying <3004>(5723), It is done <1096>(5754).
18. And <2532> there were <1096>(5633) voices <5456>, and <2532> thunders <1027>, and <2532> lightnings <796>; and <2532> there was <1096>(5633) a great <3173> earthquake <4578>, such as <3634> was <1096>(5633) not <3756> since <3739> <575> men <444> were <1096>(5633) upon <1909> the earth <1093>, so mighty <5082> an earthquake <4578>, and so <3779> great <3173>.
19. And <2532> the great <3173> city <4172> was divided <1096>(5633) into <1519> three <5140> parts <3313>, and <2532> the cities <4172> of the nations <1484> fell <4098>(5627): and <2532> great <3173> Babylon <897> came in remembrance <3415>(5681) before <1799> God <2316>, to give <1325>(5629) unto her <846> the cup <4221> of the wine <3631> of the fierceness <2372> of his <848> wrath <3709>.
20. And <2532> every <3956> island <3520> fled away <5343>(5627), and <2532> the mountains <3735> were <2147> <0> not <3756> found <2147>(5681).
21. And <2532> there fell <2597>(5719) upon <1909> men <444> a great <3173> hail <5464> out of <1537> heaven <3772>, every stone about <5613> the weight of a talent <5006>: and <2532> men <444> blasphemed <987>(5656) God <2316> because of <1537> the plague <4127> of the hail <5464>; for <3754> the plague <4127> thereof <846> was <2076>(5748) exceeding <4970> great <3173>.
