Notes that are not verse specific
The record of Saul's obituary in Chronicles tells a very different story of triple transgression. "So Saul died"
for his transgression which he committed against the Lord. (his failure against Amalek)
|
for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit. (the last act of his reign)
|
he enquired not of the Lord
|
"therefore he slew him"
John Wilson [Toronto West (Can)] Comment added in 2004 Reply to John
David was magnificent in his lamentation over the death of Saul and Jonathan. He taught Israel what love is.
David Simpson [Worcester (UK)] Comment added in 2004 Reply to David
In 1Sam 15:3 Saul is told to destroy Amalek. Isn't it ironic that in this chapter, an Amalekite comes to David claiming to have slain Saul. More than that, he is an opportunist, just as Saul had been in claiming victories to himself that others had achieved, such as when Jonathan took the garrison of the philistines and Saul took the credit for it! 1Sam 13:3-4

1. Now it came to pass after <310> the death <4194> of Saul <7586>, when David <1732> was returned <7725>(8804) from the slaughter <5221>(8687) of the Amalekites <6002>, and David <1732> had abode <3427>(8799) two <8147> days <3117> in Ziklag <6860>;
2. It came even to pass on the third <7992> day <3117>, that, behold, a man <376> came <935>(8802) out of the camp <4264> from Saul <7586> with his clothes <899> rent <7167>(8803), and earth <127> upon his head <7218>: and so it was, when he came <935>(8800) to David <1732>, that he fell <5307>(8799) to the earth <776>, and did obeisance <7812>(8691).
3. And David <1732> said <559>(8799) unto him, From whence comest <935>(8799) thou? And he said <559>(8799) unto him, Out of the camp <4264> of Israel <3478> am I escaped <4422>(8738).
4. And David <1732> said <559>(8799) unto him, How <4100> went the matter <1697>? I pray thee, tell <5046>(8685) me. And he answered <559>(8799), That the people <5971> are fled <5127>(8804) from the battle <4421>, and many <7235>(8687) of the people <5971> also are fallen <5307>(8804) and dead <4191>(8799); and Saul <7586> and Jonathan <3083> his son <1121> are dead <4191>(8804) also.
5. And David <1732> said <559>(8799) unto the young man <5288> that told <5046>(8688) him, How knowest <3045>(8804) thou that Saul <7586> and Jonathan <3083> his son <1121> be dead <4191>(8804)?
6. And the young man <5288> that told <5046>(8688) him said <559>(8799), As I happened <7136>(8738) by chance <7122>(8736) upon mount <2022> Gilboa <1533>, behold, Saul <7586> leaned <8172>(8737) upon his spear <2595>; and, lo, the chariots <7393> and horsemen <1167> <6571> followed hard <1692>(8689) after him.
7. And when he looked <6437>(8799) behind <310> him, he saw <7200>(8799) me, and called <7121>(8799) unto me. And I answered <559>(8799), Here am I.
8. And he said <559>(8799) unto me, Who art thou? And I answered <559>(8799) him, I am an Amalekite <6003>.
9. He said <559>(8799) unto me again, Stand <5975>(8798), I pray thee, upon me, and slay <4191>(8786) me: for anguish <7661> is come <270>(8804) upon me, because my life <5315> is yet whole in me.
10. So I stood <5975>(8799) upon him, and slew <4191>(8787) him, because I was sure <3045>(8804) that he could not live <2421>(8799) after <310> that he was fallen <5307>(8800): and I took <3947>(8799) the crown <5145> that was upon his head <7218>, and the bracelet <685> that was on his arm <2220>, and have brought <935>(8686) them hither unto my lord <113>.
11. Then David <1732> took hold <2388>(8686) on his clothes <899>, and rent <7167>(8799) them; and likewise all the men <582> that were with him:
12. And they mourned <5594>(8799), and wept <1058>(8799), and fasted <6684>(8799) until even <6153>, for Saul <7586>, and for Jonathan <3083> his son <1121>, and for the people <5971> of the LORD <3068>, and for the house <1004> of Israel <3478>; because they were fallen <5307>(8804) by the sword <2719>.
13. And David <1732> said <559>(8799) unto the young man <5288> that told <5046>(8688) him, Whence art thou? And he answered <559>(8799), I am the son <1121> of a stranger <376> <1616>, an Amalekite <6003>.
14. And David <1732> said <559>(8799) unto him, How wast thou not afraid <3372>(8804) to stretch forth <7971>(8800) thine hand <3027> to destroy <7843>(8763) the LORD'S <3068> anointed <4899>?
15. And David <1732> called <7121>(8799) one <259> of the young men <5288>, and said <559>(8799), Go near <5066>(8798), and fall <6293>(8798) upon him. And he smote <5221>(8686) him that he died <4191>(8799).
16. And David <1732> said <559>(8799) unto him, Thy blood <1818> be upon thy head <7218>; for thy mouth <6310> hath testified <6030>(8804) against thee, saying <559>(8800), I have slain <4191>(8790) the LORD'S <3068> anointed <4899>.
17. And David <1732> lamented <6969>(8787) with this lamentation <7015> over Saul <7586> and over Jonathan <3083> his son <1121>:
18. (Also he bade <559>(8799) them teach <3925>(8763) the children <1121> of Judah <3063> the use of the bow <7198>: behold, it is written <3789>(8803) in the book <5612> of Jasher <3477>.)
19. The beauty <6643> of Israel <3478> is slain <2491> upon thy high places <1116>: how are the mighty <1368> fallen <5307>(8804)!
20. Tell <5046>(8686) it not in Gath <1661>, publish <1319>(8762) it not in the streets <2351> of Askelon <831>; lest the daughters <1323> of the Philistines <6430> rejoice <8055>(8799), lest the daughters <1323> of the uncircumcised <6189> triumph <5937>(8799).
21. Ye mountains <2022> of Gilboa <1533>, let there be no dew <2919>, neither let there be rain <4306>, upon you, nor fields <7704> of offerings <8641>: for there the shield <4043> of the mighty <1368> is vilely cast away <1602>(8738), the shield <4043> of Saul <7586>, as though he had not been anointed <4899> with oil <8081>.
22. From the blood <1818> of the slain <2491>, from the fat <2459> of the mighty <1368>, the bow <7198> of Jonathan <3083> turned <7734>(8738) not back <268>, and the sword <2719> of Saul <7586> returned <7725>(8799) not empty <7387>.
23. Saul <7586> and Jonathan <3083> were lovely <157>(8737) and pleasant <5273> in their lives <2416>, and in their death <4194> they were not divided <6504>(8738): they were swifter <7043>(8804) than eagles <5404>, they were stronger <1396>(8804) than lions <738>.
24. Ye daughters <1323> of Israel <3478>, weep over <1058>(8798) Saul <7586>, who clothed <3847>(8688) you in scarlet <8144>, with other delights <5730>, who put <5927>(8688) on ornaments <5716> of gold <2091> upon your apparel <3830>.
25. How are the mighty <1368> fallen <5307>(8804) in the midst <8432> of the battle <4421>! O Jonathan <3083>, thou wast slain <2491> in thine high places <1116>.
26. I am distressed <6887>(8804) for thee, my brother <251> Jonathan <3083>: very <3966> pleasant <5276>(8804) hast thou been unto me: thy love <160> to me was wonderful <6381>(8738), passing the love <160> of women <802>.
27. How are the mighty <1368> fallen <5307>(8804), and the weapons <3627> of war <4421> perished <6>(8799)!
Notes that are not verse specific
In 2020 most of us have been denied access to our ecclesial meeting places. God through Jeremiah in this chapter criticises the people for putting store by the temple. All the routines and most of the duties and distractions (the cleaning rota, providing the flowers, polishing the cup, saving our favourite seat) have evaporated and perhaps we can take the opportunity to focus on what we should be doing: obeying God's voice and walking in his ways.

1. The word <1697> that came to Jeremiah <3414> from the LORD <3068>, saying <559>(8800),
2. Stand <5975>(8798) in the gate <8179> of the LORD'S <3068> house <1004>, and proclaim <7121>(8804) there this word <1697>, and say <559>(8804), Hear <8085>(8798) the word <1697> of the LORD <3068>, all ye of Judah <3063>, that enter in <935>(8802) at these gates <8179> to worship <7812>(8692) the LORD <3068>.
3. Thus saith <559>(8804) the LORD <3068> of hosts <6635>, the God <430> of Israel <3478>, Amend <3190>(8685) your ways <1870> and your doings <4611>, and I will cause you to dwell <7931>(8762) in this place <4725>.
4. Trust <982>(8799) ye not in lying <8267> words <1697>, saying <559>(8800), The temple <1964> of the LORD <3068>, The temple <1964> of the LORD <3068>, The temple <1964> of the LORD <3068>, are these.
5. For if ye throughly <3190>(8687) amend <3190>(8686) your ways <1870> and your doings <4611>; if ye throughly <6213>(8800) execute <6213>(8799) judgment <4941> between a man <376> and his neighbour <7453>;
6. If ye oppress <6231>(8799) not the stranger <1616>, the fatherless <3490>, and the widow <490>, and shed <8210>(8799) not innocent <5355> blood <1818> in this place <4725>, neither walk <3212>(8799) after <310> other <312> gods <430> to your hurt <7451>:
7. Then will I cause you to dwell <7931>(8765) in this place <4725>, in the land <776> that I gave <5414>(8804) to your fathers <1>, for <5704> ever <5769> and ever <5769>.
8. Behold, ye trust <982>(8802) in lying <8267> words <1697>, that cannot profit <3276>(8687).
9. Will ye steal <1589>(8800), murder <7523>(8800), and commit adultery <5003>(8800), and swear <7650>(8736) falsely <8267>, and burn incense <6999>(8763) unto Baal <1168>, and walk <1980>(8800) after <310> other <312> gods <430> whom ye know <3045>(8804) not;
10. And come <935>(8804) and stand <5975>(8804) before <6440> me in this house <1004>, which is called <7121>(8738) by my name <8034>, and say <559>(8804), We are delivered <5337>(8738) to do <6213>(8800) all these abominations <8441>?
11. Is this house <1004>, which is called <7121>(8738) by my name <8034>, become a den <4631> of robbers <6530> in your eyes <5869>? Behold, even I have seen <7200>(8804) it, saith <5002>(8803) the LORD <3068>.
12. But go <3212>(8798) ye now unto my place <4725> which was in Shiloh <7887>, where I set <7931>(8765) my name <8034> at the first <7223>, and see <7200>(8798) what I did <6213>(8804) to it for <6440> the wickedness <7451> of my people <5971> Israel <3478>.
13. And now, because ye have done <6213>(8800) all these works <4639>, saith <5002>(8803) the LORD <3068>, and I spake <1696>(8762) unto you, rising up early <7925>(8687) and speaking <1696>(8763), but ye heard <8085>(8804) not; and I called <7121>(8799) you, but ye answered <6030>(8804) not;
14. Therefore will I do <6213>(8804) unto this house <1004>, which is called <7121>(8738) by my name <8034>, wherein ye trust <982>(8802), and unto the place <4725> which I gave <5414>(8804) to you and to your fathers <1>, as I have done <6213>(8804) to Shiloh <7887>.
15. And I will cast you out <7993>(8689) of my sight <6440>, as I have cast out <7993>(8689) all your brethren <251>, even the whole seed <2233> of Ephraim <669>.
16. Therefore pray <6419>(8691) not thou for this people <5971>, neither lift up <5375>(8799) cry <7440> nor prayer <8605> for them <1157>, neither make intercession <6293>(8799) to me: for I will not hear <8085>(8802) thee.
17. Seest <7200>(8802) thou not what they do <6213>(8802) in the cities <5892> of Judah <3063> and in the streets <2351> of Jerusalem <3389>?
18. The children <1121> gather <3950>(8764) wood <6086>, and the fathers <1> kindle <1197>(8764) the fire <784>, and the women <802> knead <3888>(8802) their dough <1217>, to make <6213>(8800) cakes <3561> to the queen <4446> of heaven <8064>, and to pour out <5258>(8687) drink offerings <5262> unto other <312> gods <430>, that they may provoke me to anger <3707>(8687).
19. Do they provoke me to anger <3707>(8688)? saith <5002>(8803) the LORD <3068>: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion <1322> of their own faces <6440>?
20. Therefore thus saith <559>(8804) the Lord <136> GOD <3069>; Behold, mine anger <639> and my fury <2534> shall be poured out <5413>(8737) upon this place <4725>, upon man <120>, and upon beast <929>, and upon the trees <6086> of the field <7704>, and upon the fruit <6529> of the ground <127>; and it shall burn <1197>(8804), and shall not be quenched <3518>(8799).
21. Thus saith <559>(8804) the LORD <3068> of hosts <6635>, the God <430> of Israel <3478>; Put <5595>(8798) your burnt offerings <5930> unto your sacrifices <2077>, and eat <398>(8798) flesh <1320>.
22. For I spake <1696>(8765) not unto your fathers <1>, nor commanded <6680>(8765) them in the day <3117> that I brought them out <3318>(8687) of the land <776> of Egypt <4714>, concerning <1697> burnt offerings <5930> or sacrifices <2077>:
23. But this thing <1697> commanded <6680>(8765) I them, saying <559>(8800), Obey <8085>(8798) my voice <6963>, and I will be your God <430>, and ye shall be my people <5971>: and walk <1980>(8804) ye in all the ways <1870> that I have commanded <6680>(8762) you, that it may be well <3190>(8799) unto you.
24. But they hearkened <8085>(8804) not, nor inclined <5186>(8689) their ear <241>, but walked <3212>(8799) in the counsels <4156> and in the imagination <8307> of their evil <7451> heart <3820>, and went backward <268>, and not forward <6440>.
25. Since the day <3117> that your fathers <1> came forth out <3318>(8804) of the land <776> of Egypt <4714> unto this day <3117> I have even sent <7971>(8799) unto you all my servants <5650> the prophets <5030>, daily <3117> rising up early <7925>(8687) and sending <7971>(8800) them:
26. Yet they hearkened <8085>(8804) not unto me, nor inclined <5186>(8689) their ear <241>, but hardened <7185>(8686) their neck <6203>: they did worse <7489>(8689) than their fathers <1>.
27. Therefore thou shalt speak <1696>(8765) all these words <1697> unto them; but they will not hearken <8085>(8799) to thee: thou shalt also call <7121>(8804) unto them; but they will not answer <6030>(8799) thee.
28. But thou shalt say <559>(8804) unto them, This is a nation <1471> that obeyeth <8085>(8804) not the voice <6963> of the LORD <3068> their God <430>, nor receiveth <3947>(8804) correction <4148>: truth <530> is perished <6>(8804), and is cut off <3772>(8738) from their mouth <6310>.
29. Cut off <1494>(8798) thine hair <5145>, O Jerusalem, and cast it away <7993>(8685), and take up <5375>(8798) a lamentation <7015> on high places <8205>; for the LORD <3068> hath rejected <3988>(8804) and forsaken <5203>(8799) the generation <1755> of his wrath <5678>.
30. For the children <1121> of Judah <3063> have done <6213>(8804) evil <7451> in my sight <5869>, saith <5002>(8803) the LORD <3068>: they have set <7760>(8804) their abominations <8251> in the house <1004> which is called <7121>(8738) by my name <8034>, to pollute <2930>(8763) it.
31. And they have built <1129>(8804) the high places <1116> of Tophet <8612>, which is in the valley <1516> of the son <1121> of Hinnom <2011>, to burn <8313>(8800) their sons <1121> and their daughters <1323> in the fire <784>; which I commanded <6680>(8765) them not, neither came <5927>(8804) it into my heart <3820>.
32. Therefore, behold, the days <3117> come <935>(8802), saith <5002>(8803) the LORD <3068>, that it shall no more be called <559>(8735) Tophet <8612>, nor the valley <1516> of the son <1121> of Hinnom <2011>, but the valley <1516> of slaughter <2028>: for they shall bury <6912>(8804) in Tophet <8612>, till there be no <369> place <4725>.
33. And the carcases <5038> of this people <5971> shall be meat <3978> for the fowls <5775> of the heaven <8064>, and for the beasts <929> of the earth <776>; and none shall fray them away <2729>(8688).
34. Then will I cause to cease <7673>(8689) from the cities <5892> of Judah <3063>, and from the streets <2351> of Jerusalem <3389>, the voice <6963> of mirth <8342>, and the voice <6963> of gladness <8057>, the voice <6963> of the bridegroom <2860>, and the voice <6963> of the bride <3618>: for the land <776> shall be desolate <2723>.

1. At <1722> the same <1565> time <5610> came <4334>(5656) the disciples <3101> unto Jesus <2424>, saying <3004>(5723), Who <5101> <686> is <2076>(5748) the greatest <3187> in <1722> the kingdom <932> of heaven <3772>?
2. And <2532> Jesus <2424> called <4341> <0> a little child <3813> unto him <4341>(5666), and set <2476>(5656) him <846> in <1722> the midst <3319> of them <846>,
3. And <2532> said <2036>(5627), Verily <281> I say <3004>(5719) unto you <5213>, Except <3362> ye be converted <4762>(5652), and <2532> become <1096>(5638) as <5613> little children <3813>, ye shall <1525> <0> not <3364> enter <1525>(5632) into <1519> the kingdom <932> of heaven <3772>.
4. Whosoever <3748> therefore <3767> shall humble <5013>(5661) himself <1438> as <5613> this <5124> little child <3813>, the same <3778> is <2076>(5748) greatest <3187> in <1722> the kingdom <932> of heaven <3772>.
5. And <2532> whoso <3739> <1437> shall receive <1209>(5667) one <1520> such <5108> little child <3813> in <1909> my <3450> name <3686> receiveth <1209>(5736) me <1691>.
6. But <1161> whoso <3739> <302> shall offend <4624>(5661) one <1520> of these <5130> little ones <3398> which <3588> believe <4100>(5723) in <1519> me <1691>, it were better <4851>(5719) for him <846> that <2443> a millstone <3458> <3684> were hanged <2910>(5686) about <1909> his <846> neck <5137>, and <2532> that he were drowned <2670>(5686) in <1722> the depth <3989> of the sea <2281>.
7. Woe <3759> unto the world <2889> because of <575> offences <4625>! for <1063> it must needs <318> be <2076>(5748) that offences <4625> come <2064>(5629); but <4133> woe <3759> to that man <444> by <1565> whom <1223> <3739> the offence <4625> cometh <2064>(5736)!
8. Wherefore <1161> if <1487> thy <4675> hand <5495> or <2228> thy <4675> foot <4228> offend thee <4624>(5719), cut <1581> <0> them <846> off <1581>(5657), and <2532> cast <906>(5628) them from <575> thee <4571> <4675>: it is <2076>(5748) better <2570> for thee <4671> to enter into <1525>(5629) <1519> life <2222> halt <5560> or <2228> maimed <2948>, rather than <2228> having <2192>(5723) two <1417> hands <5495> or <2228> two <1417> feet <4228> to be cast <906>(5683) into <1519> everlasting <166> fire <4442>.
9. And <2532> if <1487> thine <4675> eye <3788> offend <4624>(5719) thee <4571>, pluck <1807> <0> it <846> out <1807>(5628), and <2532> cast <906>(5628) it from <575> thee <4675>: it is <2076>(5748) better <2570> for thee <4671> to enter <1525>(5629) into <1519> life <2222> with one eye <3442>, rather than <2228> having <2192>(5723) two <1417> eyes <3788> to be cast <906>(5683) into <1519> hell <1067> fire <4442>.
10. Take heed <3708>(5720) that ye despise <2706>(5661) not <3361> one <1520> of these <5130> little ones <3398>; for <1063> I say <3004>(5719) unto you <5213>, That <3754> in <1722> heaven <3772> their <846> angels <32> do always <1223> <3956> behold <991>(5719) the face <4383> of my <3450> Father <3962> which <3588> is in <1722> heaven <3772>.
11. For <1063> the Son <5207> of man <444> is come <2064>(5627) to save <4982>(5658) that which <3588> was lost <622>(5756).
12. How <5101> think <1380>(5719) ye <5213>? if <1437> <5100> a man <444> have <1096>(5638) an hundred <1540> sheep <4263>, and <2532> one <1520> of <1537> them <846> be gone astray <4105>(5686), doth he <863> <0> not <3780> leave <863>(5631) the ninety and nine <1768>, and goeth <4198>(5679) into <1909> the mountains <3735>, and seeketh <2212>(5719) that which <3588> is gone astray <4105>(5746)?
13. And <2532> if so <1437> be <1096>(5638) that he find <2147>(5629) it <846>, verily <281> I say <3004>(5719) unto you <5213> <3754>, he rejoiceth <5463>(5719) more <3123> of <1909> that <846> sheep, than <2228> of <1909> the ninety and nine <1768> which <3588> went <4105> <0> not <3361> astray <4105>(5772).
14. Even so <3779> it is <2076>(5748) not <3756> the will <2307> of <1715> your <5216> Father <3962> which <3588> is in <1722> heaven <3772>, that <2443> one <1520> of these <5130> little ones <3398> should perish <622>(5643).
15. Moreover <1161> if <1437> thy <4675> brother <80> shall trespass <264>(5661) against <1519> thee <4571>, go <5217>(5720) and <2532> tell <1651> <0> him <846> his fault <1651>(5657) between <3342> thee <4675> and <2532> him <846> alone <3441>: if <1437> he shall hear <191>(5661) thee <4675>, thou hast gained <2770>(5656) thy <4675> brother <80>.
16. But <1161> if <3362> <0> he will <191> <0> not <3362> hear <191>(5661) thee, then take <3880>(5628) with <3326> thee <4675> one <1520> or <2228> two <1417> more <2089>, that <2443> in <1909> the mouth <4750> of two <1417> or <2228> three <5140> witnesses <3144> every <3956> word <4487> may be established <2476>(5686).
17. And <1161> if <1437> he shall neglect to hear <3878>(5661) them <846>, tell <2036>(5628) it unto the church <1577>: but <1161> <2532> if <1437> he neglect to hear <3878>(5661) the church <1577>, let him be <2077>(5749) unto thee <4671> as <5618> an heathen man <1482> and <2532> a publican <5057>.
18. Verily <281> I say <3004>(5719) unto you <5213>, Whatsoever <3745> <1437> ye shall bind <1210>(5661) on <1909> earth <1093> shall be <2071>(5704) bound <1210>(5772) in <1722> heaven <3772>: and <2532> whatsoever <3745> <1437> ye shall loose <3089>(5661) on <1909> earth <1093> shall be <2071>(5704) loosed <3089>(5772) in <1722> heaven <3772>.
19. Again <3825> I say <3004>(5719) unto you <5213>, That <3754> if <1437> two <1417> of you <5216> shall agree <4856>(5661) on <1909> earth <1093> as touching <4012> any <3956> thing <4229> that <1437> they shall ask <154>(5672), it shall be done <1096>(5695) for them <846> of <3844> my <3450> Father <3962> which <3588> is in <1722> heaven <3772>.
20. For <1063> where <3757> two <1417> or <2228> three <5140> are <1526>(5748) gathered together <4863>(5772) in <1519> my <1699> name <3686>, there <1563> am I <1510>(5748) in <1722> the midst <3319> of them <846>.
21. Then <5119> came <4334>(5631) Peter <4074> to him <846>, and said <2036>(5627), Lord <2962>, how oft <4212> shall my <3450> brother <80> sin <264>(5692) against <1519> me <1691>, and <2532> I forgive <863>(5692) him <846>? till <2193> seven times <2034>?
22. Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, I say <3004>(5719) not <3756> unto thee <4671>, Until <2193> seven times <2034>: but <235>, Until <2193> seventy times <1441> seven <2033>.
23. Therefore <1223> <5124> is the kingdom <932> of heaven <3772> likened <3666>(5681) unto a certain <444> king <935>, which <3739> would <2309>(5656) take <4868>(5658) account <3056> of <3326> his <848> servants <1401>.
24. And <1161> when he <846> had begun <756>(5671) to reckon <4868>(5721), one <1520> was brought <4374>(5681) unto him <846>, which owed <3781> him <846> ten thousand <3463> talents <5007>.
25. But forasmuch as <1161> he had <2192>(5723) not <3361> to pay <591>(5629), his <846> lord <2962> commanded <2753>(5656) him <846> to be sold <4097>(5683), and <2532> his <846> wife <1135>, and <2532> children <5043>, and <2532> all <3956> that <3745> he had <2192>(5707), and <2532> payment to be made <591>(5683).
26. The servant <1401> therefore <3767> fell down <4098>(5631), and worshipped <4352>(5707) him <846>, saying <3004>(5723), Lord <2962>, have patience <3114>(5657) with <1909> me <1698>, and <2532> I will pay <591>(5692) thee <4671> all <3956>.
27. Then <1161> the lord <2962> of that <1565> servant <1401> was moved with compassion <4697>(5679), and <2532> loosed <630>(5656) him, and <2532> forgave <863>(5656) him <846> the debt <1156>.
28. But <1161> the same <1565> servant <1401> went out <1831>(5631), and found <2147>(5627) one <1520> of his <848> fellowservants <4889>, which <3739> owed <3784>(5707) him <846> an hundred <1540> pence <1220>: and <2532> he laid hands <2902>(5660) on him <846>, and took <846> him by the throat <4155>(5707), saying <3004>(5723), Pay <591>(5628) me <3427> that <3748> thou owest <3784>(5719).
29. And <3767> his <846> fellowservant <4889> fell down <4098>(5631) at <1519> his <846> feet <4228>, and besought <3870>(5707) him <846>, saying <3004>(5723), Have patience <3114>(5657) with <1909> me <1698>, and <2532> I will pay <591>(5692) thee <4671> all <3956>.
30. And <1161> he would <2309>(5707) not <3756>: but <235> went <565>(5631) and cast <906>(5627) him <846> into <1519> prison <5438>, till <2193> he should pay <591>(5632) the debt <3784>(5746).
31. So <1161> when his <846> fellowservants <4889> saw <1492>(5631) what was done <1096>(5637), they were very <4970> sorry <3076>(5681), and <2532> came <2064>(5631) and told <1285>(5656) unto their <848> lord <2962> all <3956> that was done <1096>(5637).
32. Then <5119> his <846> lord <2962>, after that he had called <4341>(5666) him <846>, said <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, O thou wicked <4190> servant <1401>, I forgave <863>(5656) thee <4671> all <3956> that <1565> debt <3782>, because <1893> thou desiredst <3870>(5656) me <3165>:
33. Shouldest <1163>(5713) not <3756> thou <4571> also <2532> have had compassion <1653>(5658) on thy <4675> fellowservant <4889>, even <2532> as <5613> I <1473> had pity <1653>(5656) on thee <4571>?
34. And <2532> his <846> lord <2962> was wroth <3710>(5685), and delivered <3860>(5656) him <846> to the tormentors <930>, till <2193> he should pay <591>(5632) all <3956> that was due <3784>(5746) unto him <846>.
35. So <3779> likewise shall my <3450> heavenly <2032> Father <3962> do <4160>(5692) also <2532> unto you <5213>, if <3362> <0> ye from <575> your <5216> hearts <2588> forgive <863>(5632) not <3362> every one <1538> his <848> brother <80> their <846> trespasses <3900>.
