2 Sam 4
The account of this murder implies that the murder had something to do with where the assassins were from. Beeroth is in Benjamin's territory, near to Gibeon (Josh 18:21-25). In Josh 9 these are both cities spared in Joshua's invasion of the land. The people of Beeroth became "slaves—woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God." Josh 9:23. Had Saul perhaps mistreated them? It's quite likely, because in 2Sam 21:1 we read that he had been killing the Gibeonites, their fellow slaves.

1. And when Saul's <7586> son <1121> heard <8085>(8799) that Abner <74> was dead <4191>(8804) in Hebron <2275>, his hands <3027> were feeble <7503>(8799), and all the Israelites <3478> were troubled <926>(8738).
2. And Saul's <7586> son <1121> had two <8147> men <582> that were <1961>(8804) captains <8269> of bands <1416>: the name <8034> of the one <259> was Baanah <1196>, and the name <8034> of the other <8145> Rechab <7394>, the sons <1121> of Rimmon <7417> a Beerothite <886>, of the children <1121> of Benjamin <1144>: (for Beeroth <881> also was reckoned <2803>(8735) to Benjamin <1144>:
3. And the Beerothites <886> fled <1272>(8799) to Gittaim <1664>, and were sojourners <1481>(8802) there until this day <3117>.)
4. And Jonathan <3083>, Saul's <7586> son <1121>, had a son <1121> that was lame <5223> of his feet <7272>. He was five <2568> years <8141> old <1121> when the tidings <8052> came <935>(8800) of Saul <7586> and Jonathan <3083> out of Jezreel <3157>, and his nurse <539>(8802) took him up <5375>(8799), and fled <5127>(8799): and it came to pass, as she made haste <2648>(8800) to flee <5127>(8800), that he fell <5307>(8799), and became lame <6452>(8735). And his name <8034> was Mephibosheth <4648>.
5. And the sons <1121> of Rimmon <7417> the Beerothite <886>, Rechab <7394> and Baanah <1196>, went <3212>(8799), and came <935>(8799) about the heat <2527> of the day <3117> to the house <1004> of Ishbosheth <378>, who lay <7901>(8802) on a bed <4904> at noon <6672>.
6. And they came thither <935>(8804) into the midst <8432> of the house <1004>, as though they would have fetched <3947>(8802) wheat <2406>; and they smote <5221>(8686) him under the fifth <2570> rib: and Rechab <7394> and Baanah <1196> his brother <251> escaped <4422>(8738).
7. For when they came <935>(8799) into the house <1004>, he lay <7901>(8802) on his bed <4296> in his bedchamber <2315> <4904>, and they smote <5221>(8686) him, and slew <4191>(8686) him, and beheaded <5493>(8686) him, and took <3947>(8799) his head <7218>, and gat them away <3212>(8799) through <1870> the plain <6160> all night <3915>.
8. And they brought <935>(8686) the head <7218> of Ishbosheth <378> unto David <1732> to Hebron <2275>, and said <559>(8799) to the king <4428>, Behold the head <7218> of Ishbosheth <378> the son <1121> of Saul <7586> thine enemy <341>(8802), which sought <1245>(8765) thy life <5315>; and the LORD <3068> hath <5414>(8799) avenged <5360> my lord <113> the king <4428> this day <3117> of Saul <7586>, and of his seed <2233>.
9. And David <1732> answered <6030>(8799) Rechab <7394> and Baanah <1196> his brother <251>, the sons <1121> of Rimmon <7417> the Beerothite <886>, and said <559>(8799) unto them, As the LORD <3068> liveth <2416>, who hath redeemed <6299>(8804) my soul <5315> out of all adversity <6869>,
10. When one told <5046>(8688) me, saying <559>(8800), Behold, Saul <7586> is dead <4191>(8804), thinking to have brought <5869> good tidings <1319>(8764), I took hold <270>(8799) of him, and slew <2026>(8799) him in Ziklag <6860>, who thought that I would have given <5414>(8800) him a reward for his tidings <1309>:
11. How much more, when wicked <7563> men <582> have slain <2026>(8804) a righteous <6662> person <376> in his own house <1004> upon his bed <4904>? shall I not therefore now require <1245>(8762) his blood <1818> of your hand <3027>, and take you away <1197>(8765) from the earth <776>?
12. And David <1732> commanded <6680>(8762) his young men <5288>, and they slew <2026>(8799) them, and cut off <7112>(8762) their hands <3027> and their feet <7272>, and hanged them up <8518>(8799) over the pool <1295> in Hebron <2275>. But they took <3947>(8804) the head <7218> of Ishbosheth <378>, and buried <6912>(8799) it in the sepulchre <6913> of Abner <74> in Hebron <2275>.
1. Then came <935>(8799) all the tribes <7626> of Israel <3478> to David <1732> unto Hebron <2275>, and spake <559>(8799), saying <559>(8800), Behold, we are thy bone <6106> and thy flesh <1320>.
2. Also in time past <865> <8032>, when Saul <7586> was king <4428> over us, thou wast he that leddest out <3318>(8688) and broughtest in <935>(8688) Israel <3478>: and the LORD <3068> said <559>(8799) to thee, Thou shalt feed <7462>(8799) my people <5971> Israel <3478>, and thou shalt be a captain <5057> over Israel <3478>.
3. So all the elders <2205> of Israel <3478> came <935>(8799) to the king <4428> to Hebron <2275>; and king <4428> David <1732> made <3772>(8799) a league <1285> with them in Hebron <2275> before <6440> the LORD <3068>: and they anointed <4886>(8799) David <1732> king <4428> over Israel <3478>.
4. David <1732> was thirty <7970> years <8141> old <1121> when he began to reign <4427>(8800), and he reigned <4427>(8804) forty <705> years <8141>.
5. In Hebron <2275> he reigned <4427>(8804) over Judah <3063> seven <7651> years <8141> and six <8337> months <2320>: and in Jerusalem <3389> he reigned <4427>(8804) thirty <7970> and three <7969> years <8141> over all Israel <3478> and Judah <3063>.
6. And the king <4428> and his men <582> went <3212>(8799) to Jerusalem <3389> unto the Jebusites <2983>, the inhabitants <3427>(8802) of the land <776>: which spake <559>(8799) unto David <1732>, saying <559>(8800), Except thou take away <5493>(8687) the blind <5787> and the lame <6455>, thou shalt not come in <935>(8799) hither: thinking <559>(8800), David <1732> cannot come in <935>(8799) hither.
7. Nevertheless David <1732> took <3920>(8799) the strong hold <4686> of Zion <6726>: the same is the city <5892> of David <1732>.
8. And David <1732> said <559>(8799) on that day <3117>, Whosoever getteth up <5060>(8799) to the gutter <6794>, and smiteth <5221>(8688) the Jebusites <2983>, and the lame <6455> and the blind <5787>, that are hated <8130>(8803) of David's <1732> soul <5315>, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said <559>(8799), The blind <5787> and the lame <6455> shall not come <935>(8799) into the house <1004>.
9. So David <1732> dwelt <3427>(8799) in the fort <4686>, and called <7121>(8799) it the city <5892> of David <1732>. And David <1732> built <1129>(8799) round about <5439> from Millo <4407> and inward <1004>.
10. And David <1732> went <3212>(8799) on <1980>(8800), and grew great <1419>, and the LORD <3068> God <430> of hosts <6635> was with him.
11. And Hiram <2438> king <4428> of Tyre <6865> sent <7971>(8799) messengers <4397> to David <1732>, and cedar <730> trees <6086>, and carpenters <2796>, and masons <7023> <68>: and they built <1129>(8799) David <1732> an house <1004>.
12. And David <1732> perceived <3045>(8799) that the LORD <3068> had established <3559>(8689) him king <4428> over Israel <3478>, and that he had exalted <5375>(8765) his kingdom <4467> for his people <5971> Israel's <3478> sake.
13. And David <1732> took <3947>(8799) him more concubines <6370> and wives <802> out of Jerusalem <3389>, after <310> he was come <935>(8800) from Hebron <2275>: and there were yet sons <1121> and daughters <1323> born <3205>(8735) to David <1732>.
14. And these be the names <8034> of those that were born <3209> unto him in Jerusalem <3389>; Shammua <8051>, and Shobab <7727>, and Nathan <5416>, and Solomon <8010>,
15. Ibhar <2984> also, and Elishua <474>, and Nepheg <5298>, and Japhia <3309>,
16. And Elishama <476>, and Eliada <450>, and Eliphalet <467>.
17. But when the Philistines <6430> heard <8085>(8799) that they had anointed <4886>(8804) David <1732> king <4428> over Israel <3478>, all the Philistines <6430> came up <5927>(8799) to seek <1245>(8763) David <1732>; and David <1732> heard <8085>(8799) of it, and went down <3381>(8799) to the hold <4686>.
18. The Philistines <6430> also came <935>(8804) and spread <5203>(8735) themselves in the valley <6010> of Rephaim <7497>.
19. And David <1732> enquired <7592>(8799) of the LORD <3068>, saying <559>(8800), Shall I go up <5927>(8799) to the Philistines <6430>? wilt thou deliver <5414>(8799) them into mine hand <3027>? And the LORD <3068> said <559>(8799) unto David <1732>, Go up <5927>(8798): for I will doubtless <5414>(8800) deliver <5414>(8799) the Philistines <6430> into thine hand <3027>.
20. And David <1732> came <935>(8799) to Baalperazim <1188>, and David <1732> smote <5221>(8686) them there, and said <559>(8799), The LORD <3068> hath broken forth <6555>(8804) upon mine enemies <341>(8802) before <6440> me, as the breach <6556> of waters <4325>. Therefore he called <7121>(8804) the name <8034> of that place <4725> Baalperazim <1188>.
21. And there they left <5800>(8799) their images <6091>, and David <1732> and his men <582> burned <5375>(8799) them.
22. And the Philistines <6430> came up <5927>(8800) yet again <3254>(8686), and spread <5203>(8735) themselves in the valley <6010> of Rephaim <7497>.
23. And when David <1732> enquired <7592>(8799) of the LORD <3068>, he said <559>(8799), Thou shalt not go up <5927>(8799); but fetch a compass <5437>(8685) behind <310> them, and come <935>(8804) upon them over against <4136> the mulberry trees <1057>.
24. And let it be, when thou hearest <8085>(8800) the sound <6963> of a going <6807> in the tops <7218> of the mulberry trees <1057>, that then thou shalt bestir <2782>(8799) thyself: for then shall the LORD <3068> go out <3318>(8804) before <6440> thee, to smite <5221>(8687) the host <4264> of the Philistines <6430>.
25. And David <1732> did so <6213>(8799), as the LORD <3068> had commanded <6680>(8765) him; and smote <5221>(8686) the Philistines <6430> from Geba <1387> until thou come <935>(8800) to Gazer <1507>.

1. Hear <8085>(8798) ye the word <1697> which the LORD <3068> speaketh <1696>(8765) unto you, O house <1004> of Israel <3478>:
2. Thus saith <559>(8804) the LORD <3068>, Learn <3925>(8799) not the way <1870> of the heathen <1471>, and be not dismayed <2865>(8735) at the signs <226> of heaven <8064>; for the heathen <1471> are dismayed <2865>(8735) at them <1992>.
3. For the customs <2708> of the people <5971> are vain <1892>: for one cutteth <3772>(8804) a tree <6086> out of the forest <3293>, the work <4639> of the hands <3027> of the workman <2796>, with the axe <4621>.
4. They deck <3302>(8762) it with silver <3701> and with gold <2091>; they fasten <2388>(8762) it with nails <4548> and with hammers <4717>, that it move <6328>(8686) not.
5. They are upright <4749> as the palm tree <8560>, but speak <1696>(8762) not: they must needs <5375>(8800) be borne <5375>(8735), because they cannot go <6805>(8799). Be not afraid <3372>(8799) of them; for they cannot do evil <7489>(8686), neither also is it in them to do good <3190>(8687).
6. Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD <3068>; thou art great <1419>, and thy name <8034> is great <1419> in might <1369>.
7. Who would not fear <3372>(8799) thee, O King <4428> of nations <1471>? for to thee doth it appertain <2969>(8804): forasmuch as among all the wise <2450> men of the nations <1471>, and in all their kingdoms <4438>, there is none like unto thee.
8. But they are altogether <259> brutish <1197>(8799) and foolish <3688>(8799): the stock <6086> is a doctrine <4148> of vanities <1892>.
9. Silver <3701> spread into plates <7554>(8794) is brought <935>(8714) from Tarshish <8659>, and gold <2091> from Uphaz <210>, the work <4639> of the workman <2796>, and of the hands <3027> of the founder <6884>(8802): blue <8504> and purple <713> is their clothing <3830>: they are all the work <4639> of cunning <2450> men.
10. But the LORD <3068> is the true <571> God <430>, he is the living <2416> God <430>, and an everlasting <5769> king <4428>: at his wrath <7110> the earth <776> shall tremble <7493>(8799), and the nations <1471> shall not be able to abide <3557>(8686) his indignation <2195>.
11. Thus <1836> shall ye say <560>(8748) unto them, The gods <426> that have not <3809> made <5648>(8754) the heavens <8065> and the earth <778>, even they shall perish <7>(8748) from the earth <772>, and from under <8460> these <429> heavens <8065>.
12. He hath made <6213>(8802) the earth <776> by his power <3581>, he hath established <3559>(8688) the world <8398> by his wisdom <2451>, and hath stretched out <5186>(8804) the heavens <8064> by his discretion <8394>.
13. When he uttereth <5414>(8800) his voice <6963>, there is a multitude <1995> of waters <4325> in the heavens <8064>, and he causeth the vapours <5387> to ascend <5927>(8686) from the ends <7097> of the earth <776>; he maketh <6213>(8804) lightnings <1300> with rain <4306>, and bringeth forth <3318>(8686) the wind <7307> out of his treasures <214>.
14. Every man <120> is brutish <1197>(8738) in his knowledge <1847>: every founder <6884>(8802) is confounded <3001>(8689) by the graven image <6459>: for his molten image <5262> is falsehood <8267>, and there is no breath <7307> in them.
15. They are vanity <1892>, and the work <4639> of errors <8595>: in the time <6256> of their visitation <6486> they shall perish <6>(8799).
16. The portion <2506> of Jacob <3290> is not like them: for he is the former <3335>(8802) of all things; and Israel <3478> is the rod <7626> of his inheritance <5159>: The LORD <3068> of hosts <6635> is his name <8034>.
17. Gather up <622>(8798) thy wares <3666> out of the land <776>, O inhabitant <3427>(8802) of the fortress <4692>.
18. For thus saith <559>(8804) the LORD <3068>, Behold, I will sling <7049>(8802) out the inhabitants <3427>(8802) of the land <776> at this once <6471>, and will distress <6887>(8689) them, that they may find <4672>(8799) it so.
19. Woe <188> is me for my hurt <7667>! my wound <4347> is grievous <2470>(8737): but I said <559>(8804), Truly <389> this is a grief <2483>, and I must bear <5375>(8799) it.
20. My tabernacle <168> is spoiled <7703>(8795), and all my cords <4340> are broken <5423>(8738): my children <1121> are gone forth <3318>(8804) of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth <5186>(8802) my tent <168> any more, and to set up <6965>(8688) my curtains <3407>.
21. For the pastors <7462>(8802) are become brutish <1197>(8738), and have not sought <1875>(8804) the LORD <3068>: therefore they shall not prosper <7919>(8689), and all their flocks <4830> shall be scattered <6327>(8738).
22. Behold, the noise <6963> of the bruit <8052> is come <935>(8802), and a great <1419> commotion <7494> out of the north <6828> country <776>, to make <7760>(8800) the cities <5892> of Judah <3063> desolate <8077>, and a den <4583> of dragons <8577>.
23. O LORD <3068>, I know <3045>(8804) that the way <1870> of man <120> is not in himself: it is not in man <376> that walketh <1980>(8802) to direct <3559>(8687) his steps <6806>.
24. O LORD <3068>, correct <3256>(8761) me, but with judgment <4941>; not in thine anger <639>, lest thou bring me to nothing <4591>(8686).
25. Pour out <8210>(8798) thy fury <2534> upon the heathen <1471> that know <3045>(8804) thee not, and upon the families <4940> that call <7121>(8804) not on thy name <8034>: for they have eaten up <398>(8804) Jacob <3290>, and devoured <398>(8804) him, and consumed <3615>(8762) him, and have made his habitation <5116> desolate <8074>(8689).

Saying <3004>(5723) unto them <846>, Go <4198>(5680) into <1519> the village <2968> over against <561> you <5216>, and <2532> straightway <2112> ye shall find <2147>(5692) an ass <3688> tied <1210>(5772), and <2532> a colt <4454> with <3326> her <846>: loose <3089>(5660) them, and bring <71>(5628) them unto me <3427>.
3. And <2532> if <1437> any man <5100> say <2036>(5632) ought <5100> unto you <5213>, ye shall say <2046>(5692), <3754> The Lord <2962> hath <2192>(5719) need <5532> of them <846>; and <1161> straightway <2112> he will send <649>(5692) them <846>.
4. All <1161> <3650> this <5124> was done <1096>(5754), that <2443> it might be fulfilled <4137>(5686) which <3588> was spoken <4483>(5685) by <1223> the prophet <4396>, saying <3004>(5723),
5. Tell ye <2036>(5628) the daughter <2364> of Sion <4622>, Behold <2400>(5628), thy <4675> King <935> cometh <2064>(5736) unto thee <4671>, meek <4239>, and <2532> sitting <1910>(5761) upon <1909> an ass <3688>, and <2532> a colt <4454> the foal <5207> of an ass <5268>.
6. And <1161> the disciples <3101> went <4198>(5679), and <2532> did <4160>(5660) as <2531> Jesus <2424> commanded <4367>(5656) them <846>,
7. And brought <71>(5627) the ass <3688>, and <2532> the colt <4454>, and <2532> put <2007>(5656) on <1883> them <846> their <848> clothes <2440>, and <2532> they set <1940>(5656)(5625) <1940>(5656) him thereon <1883> <846>.
8. And <1161> a very great <4118> multitude <3793> spread <4766>(5656) their <1438> garments <2440> in <1722> the way <3598>; others <1161> <243> cut down <2875>(5707) branches <2798> from <575> the trees <1186>, and <2532> strawed <4766>(5707) them in <1722> the way <3598>.
9. And <1161> the multitudes <3793> that went before <4254>(5723), and <2532> that followed <190>(5723), cried <2896>(5707), saying <3004>(5723), Hosanna <5614> to the Son <5207> of David <1138>: Blessed <2127>(5772) is he that cometh <2064>(5740) in <1722> the name <3686> of the Lord <2962>; Hosanna <5614> in <1722> the highest <5310>.
10. And <2532> when he was come <1525>(5631) into <1519> Jerusalem <2414>, all <3956> the city <4172> was moved <4579>(5681), saying <3004>(5723), Who <5101> is <2076>(5748) this <3778>?
11. And <1161> the multitude <3793> said <3004>(5707), This <3778> is <2076>(5748) Jesus <2424> the prophet <4396> of <575> Nazareth <3478> of Galilee <1056>.
12. And <2532> Jesus <2424> went <1525>(5627) into <1519> the temple <2411> of God <2316>, and <2532> cast out <1544>(5627) all them <3956> that sold <4453>(5723) and <2532> bought <59>(5723) in <1722> the temple <2411>, and <2532> overthrew <2690>(5656) the tables <5132> of the moneychangers <2855>, and <2532> the seats <2515> of them that sold <4453>(5723) doves <4058>,
13. And <2532> said <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, It is written <1125>(5769), My <3450> house <3624> shall be called <2564>(5701) the house <3624> of prayer <4335>; but <1161> ye <5210> have made <4160>(5656) it a den <4693> of thieves <3027>.
14. And <2532> the blind <5185> and <2532> the lame <5560> came <4334>(5656) to him <846> in <1722> the temple <2411>; and <2532> he healed <2323>(5656) them <846>.
15. And <1161> when the chief priests <749> and <2532> scribes <1122> saw <1492>(5631) the wonderful things <2297> that <3739> he did <4160>(5656), and <2532> the children <3816> crying <2896>(5723) in <1722> the temple <2411>, and <2532> saying <3004>(5723), Hosanna <5614> to the Son <5207> of David <1138>; they were sore displeased <23>(5656),
16. And <2532> said <2036>(5627) unto him <846>, Hearest thou <191>(5719) what <5101> these <3778> say <3004>(5719)? And <1161> Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Yea <3483>; have ye never <3763> read <314>(5627), <3754> Out of <1537> the mouth <4750> of babes <3516> and <2532> sucklings <2337>(5723) thou hast perfected <2675>(5668) praise <136>?
17. And <2532> he left <2641>(5631) them <846>, and went <1831>(5627) out of <1854> the city <4172> into <1519> Bethany <963>; and <2532> he lodged <835>(5675) there <1563>.
18. Now <1161> in the morning <4405> as he returned <1877>(5723) into <1519> the city <4172>, he hungered <3983>(5656).
19. And <2532> when he saw <1492>(5631) a <3391> fig tree <4808> in <1909> the way <3598>, he came <2064>(5627) to <1909> it <846>, and <2532> found <2147>(5627) nothing <3762> thereon <1722> <846>, but <1508> leaves <5444> only <3440>, and <2532> said <3004>(5719) unto it <846>, Let no <1096> <0> fruit <2590> grow <1096>(5638) on <1537> thee <4675> henceforward <3371> for <1519> ever <165>. And <2532> presently <3916> the fig tree <4808> withered away <3583>(5681).
20. And <2532> when the disciples <3101> saw <1492>(5631) it, they marvelled <2296>(5656), saying <3004>(5723), How <4459> soon <3916> is the fig tree <4808> withered away <3583>(5681)!
21. Jesus <2424> answered <611>(5679) and <1161> said <2036>(5627) unto them <846>, Verily <281> I say <3004>(5719) unto you <5213>, If <1437> ye have <2192>(5725) faith <4102>, and <2532> doubt <1252>(5686) not <3361>, ye shall <4160> <0> not <3756> only <3440> <0> do <4160>(5692) this <3440> which is done to the fig tree <4808>, but <235> also if <2579> ye shall say <2036>(5632) unto this <5129> mountain <3735>, Be thou removed <142>(5682), and <2532> be thou cast <906>(5682) into <1519> the sea <2281>; it shall be done <1096>(5695).
22. And <2532> all things <3956>, whatsoever <302> <3745> ye shall ask <154>(5661) in <1722> prayer <4335>, believing <4100>(5723), ye shall receive <2983>(5695).
23. And <2532> when he was come <2064>(5631) into <1519> the temple <2411>, the chief priests <749> and <2532> the elders <4245> of the people <2992> came <4334>(5656) unto him <846> as he was teaching <1321>(5723), and said <3004>(5723), By <1722> what <4169> authority <1849> doest thou <4160>(5719) these things <5023>? and <2532> who <5101> gave <1325>(5656) thee <4671> this <5026> authority <1849>?
24. And <1161> Jesus <2424> answered <611>(5679) and said <2036>(5627) unto them <846>, I also <2504> will ask <2065>(5692) you <5209> one <1520> thing <3056>, which <3739> if <1437> ye tell <2036>(5632) me <3427>, I in like wise <2504> will tell <2046>(5692) you <5213> by <1722> what <4169> authority <1849> I do <4160>(5719) these things <5023>.
25. The baptism <908> of John <2491>, whence <4159> was it <2258>(5713)? from <1537> heaven <3772>, or <2228> of <1537> men <444>? And <1161> they reasoned <1260>(5711) with <3844> themselves <1438>, saying <3004>(5723), If <1437> we shall say <2036>(5632), From <1537> heaven <3772>; he will say <2046>(5692) unto us <2254>, Why <1302> did ye <4100> <0> not <3756> then <3767> believe <4100>(5656) him <846>?
26. But <1161> if <1437> we shall say <2036>(5632), Of <1537> men <444>; we fear <5399>(5736) the people <3793>; for <1063> all <3956> hold <2192>(5719) John <2491> as <5613> a prophet <4396>.
27. And <2532> they answered <611>(5679) Jesus <2424>, and said <2036>(5627), We cannot <3756> tell <1492>(5758). And <2532> he said <5346>(5713) unto them <846>, Neither <3761> tell <3004>(5719) I <1473> you <5213> by <1722> what <4169> authority <1849> I do <4160>(5719) these things <5023>.
28. But <1161> what <5101> think <1380>(5719) ye <5213>? A certain man <444> had <2192>(5707) two <1417> sons <5043>; and <2532> he came <4334>(5631) to the first <4413>, and said <2036>(5627), Son <5043>, go <5217>(5720) work <2038>(5737) to day <4594> in <1722> my <3450> vineyard <290>.
29. He answered <1161> <611>(5679) and said <2036>(5627), I will <2309>(5719) not <3756>: but <1161> afterward <5305> he repented <3338>(5679), and went <565>(5627).
30. And <2532> he came <4334>(5631) to the second <1208>, and said <2036>(5627) likewise <5615>. And <1161> he answered <611>(5679) and said <2036>(5627), I <1473> go, sir <2962>: and <2532> went <565>(5627) not <3756>.
31. Whether <5101> of <1537> them twain <1417> did <4160>(5656) the will <2307> of his father <3962>? They say <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, The first <4413>. Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Verily <281> I say <3004>(5719) unto you <5213>, That <3754> the publicans <5057> and <2532> the harlots <4204> go <4254> <0> into <1519> the kingdom <932> of God <2316> before <4254>(5719) you <5209>.
32. For <1063> John <2491> came <2064>(5627) unto <4314> you <5209> in <1722> the way <3598> of righteousness <1343>, and <2532> ye believed <4100>(5656) him <846> not <3756>: but <1161> the publicans <5057> and <2532> the harlots <4204> believed <4100>(5656) him <846>: and <1161> ye <5210>, when ye had seen <1492>(5631) it, repented <3338>(5675) not <3756> afterward <5305>, that ye might believe <4100>(5658) him <846>.
33. Hear <191>(5657) another <243> parable <3850>: There was <2258>(5713) a certain <444> <5100> householder <3617>, which <3748> planted <5452>(5656) a vineyard <290>, and <2532> hedged <5418> it <846> round about <4060>(5656), and <2532> digged <3736>(5656) a winepress <3025> in <1722> it <846>, and <2532> built <3618>(5656) a tower <4444>, and <2532> let <1554> <0> it <846> out <1554>(5639) to husbandmen <1092>, and <2532> went into a far country <589>(5656):
34. And <1161> when <3753> the time <2540> of the fruit <2590> drew near <1448>(5656), he sent <649>(5656) his <848> servants <1401> to <4314> the husbandmen <1092>, that they might receive <2983>(5629) the fruits <2590> of it <846>.
35. And <2532> the husbandmen <1092> took <2983>(5631) his <846> servants <1401>, and beat <1194>(5656) one <3739>, <3303> and <1161> killed <615>(5656) another <3739>, and <1161> stoned <3036>(5681) another <3739>.
36. Again <3825>, he sent <649>(5656) other <243> servants <1401> more <4119> than the first <4413>: and <2532> they did <4160>(5656) unto them <846> likewise <5615>.
37. But <1161> last of all <5305> he sent <649>(5656) unto <4314> them <846> his <848> son <5207>, saying <3004>(5723), They will reverence <1788>(5691) my <3450> son <5207>.
38. But <1161> when the husbandmen <1092> saw <1492>(5631) the son <5207>, they said <2036>(5627) among <1722> themselves <1438>, This <3778> is <2076>(5748) the heir <2818>; come <1205>(5773), let us kill <615>(5725) him <846>, and <2532> let us seize <2722>(5632) on his <846> inheritance <2817>.
39. And <2532> they caught <2983>(5631) him <846>, and cast <1544>(5627) him out of <1854> the vineyard <290>, and <2532> slew <615>(5656) him.
40. When <3752> the lord <2962> therefore <3767> of the vineyard <290> cometh <2064>(5632), what <5101> will he do <4160>(5692) unto those <1565> husbandmen <1092>?
41. They say <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, He will miserably <2560> destroy <622>(5692) those <846> wicked men <2556>, and <2532> will let out <1554>(5695) his vineyard <290> unto other <243> husbandmen <1092>, which <3748> shall render <591>(5692) him <846> the fruits <2590> in <1722> their <846> seasons <2540>.
42. Jesus <2424> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Did ye <314> <0> never <3763> read <314>(5627) in <1722> the scriptures <1124>, The stone <3037> which <3739> the builders <3618>(5723) rejected <593>(5656), the same <3778> is become <1096>(5675) <1519> the head <2776> of the corner <1137>: this <3778> is <3844> the Lord's <2962> doing <1096>(5633), and <2532> it is <2076>(5748) marvellous <2298> in <1722> our <2257> eyes <3788>?
43. Therefore <1223> <5124> say I <3004>(5719) unto you <5213>, <3754> The kingdom <932> of God <2316> shall be taken <142>(5701) from <575> you <5216>, and <2532> given <1325>(5701) to a nation <1484> bringing forth <4160>(5723) the fruits <2590> thereof <846>.
44. And <2532> whosoever shall fall <4098>(5631) on <1909> this <5126> stone <3037> shall be broken <4917>(5701): but <1161> on <1909> whomsoever <302> it shall fall <4098>(5632), it will grind <3039> <0> him <846> to powder <3039>(5692).
45. And <2532> when the chief priests <749> and <2532> Pharisees <5330> had heard <191>(5660) his parables <3850>, they perceived <1097>(5627) that <3754> he spake <3004>(5719) of <4012> them <846>.
46. But <2532> when they sought <2212>(5723) to lay hands <2902>(5658) on him <846>, they feared <5399>(5675) the multitude <3793>, because <1894> they took <2192>(5707) him <846> for <5613> a prophet <4396>.
